Parent Letter

November 18, 2009
Dear Parents,
This is the last parent letter for November. We will NOT be sending home
a letter or work envelope next week as it is a short week. I would like to
take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for your support
this year, it has been a wonderful year and I truly enjoy being with your
children daily. I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving break.
AR Points: Progress reports for the Second Quarter will go home on
December 2nd and your child must be at their halfway goal towards their AR
points by Tuesday, November 24th in order to pass Work Habits on the Progress
Reports. Please encourage your child to test as soon as they complete their
book.
Math We have moved onto Chapter 18 –Geometry. We will complete this
Chapter and test on Monday, November 23rd. We also are continuing to review
multiplication tables with weekly drills, this week our test is on the 9’s
tables. We will be completing our weekly tests for our Sundae Party before
the Quarter ends in January. Please follow along on eharcourtschool.com. It
offers additional practice problems that support our curriculum.
Reading: Ticket to Read, V-Math, and FCAT Explorer are additional sites
the students are enrolled in. Practice on these sites will promote reading
growth.
Writing: We have begun focusing on Narrative writing (story telling).
Retelling stories or movies at home by recognizing the characters, setting,
problem and attempts to solve the problem will help practice the concepts we
are learning in class.

Website: Please check for homework and any announcements regularly.
The Bolt: LNS has a new online school newspaper! It’s a must see!
http://lnsbolt.com
Stone Soup: A form went home last week regarding our activity which we
will be doing the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. I am looking for donations of
canned potatoes; otherwise we have a good variety for our soup, thank you for
your generosity. I could also use an extra pair of hands or two if you are
interested please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you.
DOL: Your child has begun working on improving student sentences, and
changing nouns, and verb as their DOL. Practice pages will come home.
Application of skills on new sentences will be their weekly tests for the
next few weeks.
Progress Reports: Progress reports are coming out for the 2nd Quarter on
December 2nd. Please remember that your child has the option of correcting
any graded paper for an improved grade.
Thank you,
Sue Miller
