Parent Letter

November 12, 2009
Dear Parents,
A special thank you to all of our Veterans, your service is greatly
appreciated.
AR points and Reading Logs: The new quarter has begun. Students are
required to earn their assigned points on their new book levels for this
quarter. Keep reading 30 minutes each night and filling in the log.
Math We have completed Chapter 17 –Geometry. We will continue to focus
on problem solving and will have many hands on opportunities. Fridays will
be our DROPS test which is based on work we have done for homework and in
class review, we hit 10 different standards every week and keep building on
those concepts as we move through the year. We also are continuing to review
multiplication tables with weekly drills. Please follow along on
eharcourtschool.com. It offers additional practice problems that support our
curriculum.
Reading: Ticket to Read, V-Math, and FCAT Explorer are additional sites
the students are enrolled in. Practice on these sites will promote reading
growth.
Writing: We will continue to review the expository essay as we switch to
the narrative essay. Retelling stories or movies at home by recognizing the
characters, setting, problem and attempts to solve the problem will help
students prepare for the narrative.
Wednesday Work Folders: Work folders went home on Thursday this week
because I was at a training on Wednesday. Please make sure to empty and sign
weekly work folders. (this is week 3 of the Second Quarter).
Website: Our site is finally up and running. Please check for homework
and any announcements regularly.
The Bolt: LNS has a new online school newspaper! It’s a must see!
http://lnsbolt.com
Stone Soup: A form is attached to today’s parent letter regarding our
activity we will be doing the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week. I am looking for
donations and volunteers, please fill out and send in the attached form if
you are interested.
DOL: Beginning next week your child will be working on improving student
sentences, and changing nouns, and verb as their DOL. Practice pages will
come home. Application of skills on new sentences will be their weekly tests
for the next few months.
Progress Reports: Progress reports are coming out for the 2nd Quarter at
the end of November. Please remember that your child has the option of
correcting any graded paper for an improved grade.

Thank you,
Sue Miller
