Laurel Nokomis School has the largest interactive music programs in
the county. We now have a new 6th grade band and orchestra program for
example.
6th,7th, 8th graders: - are continuing lessons on violin with Mr.
Millner. Students meet after school from 3:15-4:00 pm in group lessons on
Tuesdays. There is no fee other than $7.00 for violin book on positions.
Orchestra meets with Miss Rycyk daily.
4th & 5th graders: - are continuing to study violin during the day as
part of their musical instruction for 2nd & 4th quarters. Select 5th grade
students meet after school on Wednesdays from 3:15-4:00 pm for group
instruction. There is no fee other than $7.00 for violin book. Music stands
are provided. Summer lessons are offered with Mr. Millner beginning in June.
3rd graders: - study the recorder 2nd quarter to learn to read music.
Recorders are $6.00 plus tax from Mr. Millner including all accessories or
$1.00-$2.00 at Walmart or the Dollar Store. Fourth quarter 3rd grade students
are given the chance to study the violin - a real instrument.
2nd graders: - are encouraged to purchase a recorder to use over the
summer to "get ahead" and prepare for third grade. ($6.00 plus tax)
Violins are "free" for use in class. Violins may be rented for $12.00
for students wanting to take it home to improve their skills. (3rd,4th,5th g.)
Middle school students explore violin, viola, cello and bass.
