What is the AR policy for 6th grade?

1. Students in 6th grade are evaluated through the use of STAR.
2. Each student is notified of his or her ZPD and of any improvement or loss
of skill from the previous year. I give them suggestions as to their
goal for the end of the year.
3. Students are required to pass three quizzes a quarter on books within
their zone. To ensure the book is within their zone and that we have a
quiz for it, I must approve the book.
4. If a student does not pass three quizzes by the last media period in the
quarter, that student receives the indicator IA on their report card and
    a deficiency.
5. If a student wishes to read above their zone, he/she should talk with me.

How will students writing projects be graded?

Since writing is a major part of the Language Arts curriculum in sixth grade,
I will be using a different grading system than with Literature, Grammar, and
Vocabulary. It is difficult to grade writing as a numeric grade so I will be
using a point system. The point system will be based on a rubric consisting
of these categories: Ideas, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence
Fluency, Use of Language, Elaboration, and Purpose/Audience. Each
assignment will be assigned a certain number of possible points earned.
Points earned by your child will be divided by possible points earned. This
will give a numerical percentage, which will be their grade for Writing. If
you have any questions, please let know.
