SPECIAL INFORMATION FOR PARENT/GUARDIAN
MY GOALS FOR THE 2009- 2010 SCHOOL YEAR:

STUDSTUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
To be attentive, participate, and complete assignments (recorder practicing-5th & 4th)
To be prepared for class by staying on task and listening to the directions.
To bring the recorder and books to every class and practice from week to week.
To be the best learner he/she can be during class time.
To be respectful of personal and school property.
PARENT/GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILITIES:
To encourage and assist your child with practicing and studying the assignments.
To encourage your child to have a positive outlook toward the many possibilities music has to offer.
PARENT/GUARDIAN/TEACHER COMMUNICATIONS:
Fifth Week Progress Reports during the First Quarter given to all students.
Fifth and Seventh Week Deficiency Reports given as needed for students with poor or failing academic achievement or unacceptable behavior.
Conferences should be arranged by appointment for effective outcomes through phone calls or notes.
Report Cards: Grades K-8 distributed quarterly.
Calendars sent home monthly via the oldest or only child.
CURRICULUM:
The curriculum for all grades at Most Holy Redeemer Inter-Parochial School is mandated by the Diocese of St. Petersburg Office of Catholic Schools and Centers, and school-based administrative decisions. The textbooks and materials are selected based on recommendations from the Office of Catholic Schools and teacher selection committees.
In order to keep up-to-date in the area of curriculum, MHR teachers serve on various diocesan committees, and attend workshops and in-service programs throughout the year. Staff Development is on–going at the local level.
HOMEWORK:
Homework is assigned from week to week in grades 4 & 5 (practicing recorders).
Practice is assigned from time to time with a due date given for grades 1-3.
EXTRA HELP:
Students that are experiencing difficultly in music class while practicing the next lesson, especially in 5th grade with the recorder, may let Mrs. Ford know in the morning so we can work after school from 3:15-3:25 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. We will then go to the 7A classroom to work.
GRADING POLICY:
E -- Excellent work - - exceptional performance.
S -- Satisfactory work - - acceptable performance.
N -- Needs improvement - - work not up to grade level standards.
U -- Unsatisfactory - - unacceptable work or work not completed.
* A grade of S in subject, effort and conduct is required for the Honor Roll and for participation in extra curricular activities.
TESTING POLICY:
Tests/quizzes are given from time to time, but grades generally depend on class/home assignments and participation.
BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS:
Students are expected to follow the Code of Conduct including the uniform code. Student’s out-of-uniform will need to comply or be given a detention. Students are expected to have a positive attitude concerning school policies, rules and school work. Students are expected to comply with the due dates of assignments.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AVAILABLE FOR GRADES 3-8:
1. Choir for grades 3-8 will be held during their recess time at school throughout the school year.
2. A grade of S in subject, effort and conduct is required to join the choir and must be maintained throughout the entire school year.
* Tryouts are required for all students in grades 3-8 *
Please Note: Students are expected to attend all practices unless notified of cancellation. If students miss 3 practices or miss more than one performance/activity they may no longer remain in choir and will not receive a choir certificate at the end of the school year.
