Accelerated Reader & Book Club

All Students should be reading at least 20 minutes per night for 4 nights
per week. These nights can include the weekend. Remember, for Kindergarten
through Second Grade, they "Learn to Read." Then from Third Grade on...
they "Read to Learn."

Magic Tree House Passports

If a student can demonstrate that they know how to go to the Magic
Tree House Web Site (see my Links page) and earn a Passport Sticker, I will
give them a Magic Tree House Official Passport. (I only have a limited
number at this time.)When I run out, you can still download an Official
Passport from their Web Site.

AR Requirements:

Students will be required to pass 8 AR tests each quarter. Passing grade
is at least 6 out of 10, or 4 out of 5.

Students should choose picture books that are within their AR Zone. Chapter
books, however, can be below their zone, but not above their zone. All Book
Club books are OK to take an AR test on, no matter what the zone.

In addition to that, at least ONE of those books must be a chapter book in
the Second Quarter, at least TWO in the Third Quarter, and at least THREE
must be chapter books in the Fourth Quarter.

For a more detailed presentation on the Accelerated Reader Program, please
see the "Accelerated Reader Presentaion" link under "Open House."

Book Club

We have started our Book Club! As your child enrolls in the book club, he
will get his/her own membership card! I have about 5 copies of various books
for the club. The student will be assigned a few chapters to read each
night. When time permits, we will gather in the classroom and discuss the
chapters while answering questions about the content. Then they will take
the AR test. If they read, participate and take the AR test, they will be
given a little prize at the end. (All Book Club books have AR tests, and even
if the book is below someone's zone, they may still take the test.)
