HOMEWORK POLICY:
Homework gives students the opportunity to practice skills taught during the school day. Students will have social studies work (study vocabulary, take notes, or answer questions, etc.) Monday –Thursday. Specific language arts assignments will be given at least two of the four nights. Some long-term projects will be assigned, giving students the opportunity to practice managing their time and setting short-term goals. In addition, students are expected to read and accumulate points from AR books. The point totals are on my AR Requirements page. Students may want to read 15-20 minutes nightly to accomplish this goal.
If a student is absent, he/she is expected to check the class planner for required work. The class planner contains any required assignments and type of notes provided that day. The class planner should be checked after any absence.
Doing homework on a regular basis can improve a student’s grade as well as help him/her master skills and understand concepts. Students begin each quarter with 100 points in each subject. Three points are subtracted for the first late assignment. Five points are subtracted for all other late assignments. Deficiencies are given after the fourth late assignment. Students begin over each quarter. When an assignment is late, one point will be taken from the 8th grade student’s point sheet.

CURRICULUM:
The curriculum for all grades at Most Holy Redeemer Inter-Parochial School is mandated by the Diocese of St. Petersburg Office of Catholic Schools and Centers and school-based administrative decisions. The textbooks and materials are selected based on recommendations from the Office of Catholic Schools and teacher selection committees.
In order to keep up-to-date in the area of curriculum, MHR teachers serve on various diocesan committees and attend workshops and in-service programs through out the year. Staff Development is on-going at the local level.
BEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS:
Each teacher has developed a set of Classroom Rules and Behavioral Expectations for their students. All MHR students are expected to abide by the classroom rules and the school’s Code of Conduct and Dress/Hair/Jewelry Code at all times. As students in a Catholic school, MHR students are expected to be courteous, respectful, and honest in the Christian tradition. Unacceptable behavior is dealt with in several ways such as warnings, phone calls home, detention, and suspensions. The cooperation of home in changing unacceptable behavior is important and necessary.
MY CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS ARE:
Be respectful.
Be prepared.
Each student has written these expectations in the front of their language arts spiral along with an elaboration of what each means.
