* A paper was sent home Monday about a movie we will be watching on Monday,
December 14. The movie is 'Akeelah and The Bee' and it is
about a girl's work to succeed in being a top speller in her school and the
nation. It is a terrific movie with a great message. It is rated PG and if
you do not want your child to watch it, then the form that was sent home will
need to be returned with your signature by Monday, December 14.
* Our class holiday party will be Wednesday, December 16, in the afternoon.
Please send in any goodies you wish to share with the students.
* Social Studies will now be taught in conjunction with Reading. We will be
using the social studies text along with the reading text and other
nonfiction texts. Grades will be given for both social studies and reading
(for example, a test on the lesson taught will have its grade put in reading
and in social studies).
* The Fifth Grade Spelling Bee will be December 15 at 9am. The classroom
representatives are Faith Simmons, Deja Vanterpool, Chanelle Grant, Arthur
Russell, and Amber Guettler. Congratualations!
* The next field trip is to the play 'Freedom Train' on Tuesday, January 5.
If you did not send in money for the trip by Friday morning, your child will
not be able to go on the field trip. Anyone not going on the field trip will
be sent to another classroom to while the class is gone for the morning.
* The last day of school before the Holiday Break will be Wednesday, December
16.
* Look for a paper taped into the back of your child's planner that
has their FCAT Explorer information on it. We have started doing that during
computer lab time and we encourage the students to do the reading, math, and
science activities at home. Please note - there is no fifth grade reading so
we would like the students to do the fourth grade reading unless the student
is told to do otherwise.
* We have about 65% PTA membership in our classroom. Way to go parents! You
can still join for $5.
* There is a new resource schedule at NBE this year. There are A, B, C, D,
E, and F days. Tuesday was A day and Monday will be B day. For our class:
A day = PE
B day = art
C day = music
D day = computer lab
E day = library
F day = no resource for us that day
* Look for your child's weekly conduct grade in their planner on Friday. In
fifth grade we do not have a daily conduct grade, rather it is a weekly
conduct grade with 5 points taken off for each mark the student receives on
the conduct chart (no points taken off for no homework and planner not
signed). Please sign the planner over the weekend so that we know you saw
the conduct grade.
* Please see our Calendar Page on this website for information regarding
upcoming events. :)
