Welcome to Mrs. Roulhac's 4th & 5th grade class! I am so thrilled to have you as a visitor. The purpose of this website is to incorporate technology into daily instruction and communicate important information and updates for students and their families. Our class website will provide home learning assignments and different resources, links, and information to assist with home learning, as well as topics being covered in our classroom. So feel free to navigate the side links, to explore and continue the learning adventure. Unfortunately after December 17th, this teacherweb site will not exist, therefore I will communicate the same information on the BloomZ app and our class Facebook page.

Students will also reading a variety of literature to further enhance their reading skills and reading ability ( see our Books of the Month link) within a small group, independently, or in a Literature Circle. Students will also explore a variety of Reading Genres through Genre Journeys (4th) and Reading Contracts(5th).

Language Arts- This year students will learn how to respond to a text through an informative or opinion writing pieces. Students will explore how ot dissect a writing prompt, brainstorm writing topics, and create a plan for writing. They will then make sure their writing is focused on the topic, is organized with a beginning, middle, and end, have ample support through elaboration of details, and follow proper conventions. In addition to all of these great writing skills, students will be increasing their vocabulary and grammar skills. Students will learn grammar from a variety of resources, in which they will learn to incorporate it into their daily writing. Student will write weekly for homework as well, with P.A.W. (PARAGRAPH/PAGE - A- WEEK) for more writing practice. Students will also get the opportunity to show their creative writing skills off through our class newspaper "Panther Press".

Math- In Math, students will be mastering their place value, multiplication, division, geometry, and measurement skills at the beginning of Our Go Math Florida series. Continuing with Algebra, Decimals, and Fractions. Students will also have the opportunity to work on a number of Math Projects, Problem Solving, and Enrichment Activities throughout the year. Students will also have the chance to try out for our school Math Team, where they will get a chance to compete against other elementary students.

Science - My super scientist will begin year off by reviewing the Scientific Method and Science Process Skills. They will apply this knowledge ongoing science experiments and interactive science labs through BEEP's Virtual lab. In addition to scientific readers, we'll aceess educational science video to further review science topics, conduct experiments online and in class, and keep an interactive science journal to help us learn and understand new scientific concepts and vocabulary.

STEM SQUAD- The acronym STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. This approach to education is designed to revolutionize the teaching of subject areas such as mathematics and science by incorporating technology and engineering into regular curriculum by creating a “meta-discipline". As a part of our classroom the STEM Squad curriculum will allow students to put their critical thinking and problem-solving skills to use while designing, engineering, and building. Our focus this year will be on high- cognitive mathematical questions, rockets, mousetrap cars, robots, and computer programming, but not limited. Students will also learn to work in teams and be a team player. Students who excel in any of these areas will be able to compete in our districts Math, SECME, and Robotics competition. As I attempt to transform the typical teacher-centered classroom by encouraging a curriculum that is driven by problem-solving, discovery, exploratory learning, and require students to actively engage a situation in order to find its solution. All students will benefit from the STEM Squad curriculum because it teaches independent innovation and allows students to explore greater depths of all of the subjects by utilizing the skills learned; these skills are going to be required in order for today’s students to be tomorrow’s global leaders.

Social Studies- The 4th grade Social Studies curriculum focuses on helping students learn all about our state, Florida. 5th students will explore US history using a variety of texts and their interactive notebook. Students will research, create, role-play, and apply many of these historic events to creative learning.

P.E./Health- Students will not only just "play" for recess, but learn the importance of team work through team sports and physical activities. Physical Fitness Challenges and Aerobics will also be included in our daily Physical Education activities. Most importantly each quarter students will complete a unit in Health & Nutrition.
