I have been teaching for twenty-one years, thirteen at N. B. Forrest and the
last eight years here at Paxon SAS. I have an M.A. in Literature from
UNF. I have National Board Certification. I was named Teacher of the
Year in 2000-2001 at N. B. Forrest and in 2008-2009 at Paxon SAS.
I have a wife and one son. We took a two-week trip to Australia and New
Zealand in the summer of '08. I enjoy reading poetry, novels,
autobiographies,and books about history. My two favorite rock groups are The
Beatles and Queen.

Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
• Analyze and interpret samples of good writing;
• Identify and explain an author’s use of rhetorical strategies and
techniques;
• Apply effective strategies and techniques in their own writing;
• Create and sustain arguments based on readings, research, and/or
personal experience;
• Demonstrate understanding and mastery of standard written English as
well as stylistic maturity of their own writings;
• Write a variety of genres and contexts, both formal and informal,
employing appropriate conventions;
• Produce expository, analytical and argumentative compositions that
introduce a complex central idea and develop it with appropriate
and specific evidence, cogent explanations, and clear transitions;
• Move effectively through the stages of the writing process, with
careful attention to inquiry and research, drafting, revising,
editing, and evaluation.
