Un poisson d'avril est une plaisanterie, voire un canular, que l'on fait le 
1er avril à ses connaissances ou à ses amis.
Il est aussi de coutume de faire des canulars dans la presse, aussi bien 
écrite, radio, télédiffusée et sur Internet.

Pour les enfants, il consiste à accrocher un poisson de papier dans le dos de 
personnes dont on veut se gausser.
« Poisson d'avril ! » est aussi l'exclamation que l'on pousse une fois qu'une 
des plaisanteries est découverte, ou pour avertir la victime du canular que 
l'histoire qu'on vient de lui raconter est fausse.

C'est quoi cette histoire?
A 58 ans, James Brewer subit un très grave accident vasculaire cérébral. 
Soigné à l'hôpital, il est convaincu qu'il va mourir.
Un crime remontant à 1977.
Membre actif de l'église locale, Il veut soulager sa conscience. Il appelle 
donc la police et se dénonce comme auteur d'un crime commis en 1977 précise 
la BBC.
Il habitait à l'époque dans le Tennessee à Hohenwald, et s'appelait Michael 
Anderson.
Il déclare avoir abattu un de ses voisins de 20 ans, Jimmy Caroll.
Juste après le meurtre, il avait déménagé et changé de nom.
Selon lui, le voisin aurait tenté de séduire sa femme, a-t-il expliqué aux 
inspecteurs.
"Il voulait purifier son âme, parce qu’il croyait qu’il allait mourir", 
déclare Tony Grasso sur la BBC, le détective en charge de l’affaire.
Il risque la peine de mort
Remis de son AVC, James Brewer (ou Michael Anderson, au choix) a été remis 
aux autorités du Tennessee, où il n'y a pas de prescription pour les meurtres.
Il risque donc aujourd'hui la peine de mort annonce la BBC.
