World Literature

Objective: The main objective this quarter is to focus on the mystery novel. 
Students will deal with suspense, irony, and the element of surprise. 
Students will also learn the research paper process to prepare them for the 
research paper.

Monday March 23 We will have a research paper review and participation 
exercise. MLA documentation, citing sources, proper credit. Students will 
begin reading Witness for the Prosecution. Reading with NOTES is required for 
ALL short stories.

Listed below are the Agatha Christie story assignments for 4th quarter and 
DUE DATES.

1. Witness for the Prosecution pp.1-29

Write a surprise ending for this story ....You must first do a story map for 
the reading, at home. The discussion on this story will be April 2 and April 
3, and the paper is due at that time. The paper must be 350 words. Use 5 
vocabulary words and 5 transitions you have learned this year.

2. The Red Signal pp. 31-57

Write a prequel for this story .... You must first do a story map. The paper 
must be 300 words. Use 5 vocabulary words and 5 transitions in your writing. 
The discussion on this story is April 20 or April 21 and the paper is due. 
 

3. Where There's a Will pp. 107-126

Write a sequel for this story ... Make a 10 point graphic organizer. Write a 
300 word sequel. Use 5 vocabulary words and 5 transitions in your writing. 
The discussion on this story is April 22 and 23. The paper is due April 27 
and 28.

4. S.O.S pp. 83-105

Write a companion Mystery story .... Make a 10 point graphic organizer. Write 
a 300 word mystery. Use 5 vocabulary words and 5 transitions in your writing.
The discussion on this story is April 29 and 30. This paper is due May 4 and 
5.

5. The fourth Man pp. 59-81

Write a surprise ending for this story ... You must first do a story map. The 
paper must be 350 words. Use 5 vocabulary words and 5 transitions in your 
writing. The discussion on this story is May 4 and 5. The paper is due May  
7 and 11.  

6. Accident pp. 235-247

Write a prequel for this story ... You must first do a story map.
The discussion on this story is May 13 and 14, with notes. The story map is 
due May 18 and 19. This is a class participation grade.

7. Mystery of the Blue Jar pp. 127-152

Write a similar story .... You must do a story map. The discussion on this 
story is May 20 and 21, with notes. The story map is due May 27 and 28. This 
is a class participation grade.
