Semaine 1: du 25 au 29 aout 2008

Review

- Students will review basic conversational skills: greetings, farewells, expressions at an introduction...

- Students will review basic classroom's commands

 

Semaine 2: du 2 au 5 septembre 2008

Review

- Students will be introduced to the class rules and the teacher's expectations and grading system.

- Students will review days, months, numbers, dates.

- Students will learn about the French-speaking countries around the world.

 

Semaine 3: du 8 au12 septembre 2008

Unit 1 - Lesson 0

- Students will review definite & indefinite articles, nationalities in the feminine and the masculine, the professions,

the prepositions "a, en, au, aux, dans, sur...", countries in the masculine and feminine genders.

- Students will review the expression "Il y a..." and the verbs "etre, avoir, parler, visiter, arriver, comprendre, faire "

in affirmative, and negative sentences.

- Students will review how to ask questions two ways with the expression "Est-ce que...?" and by reversing the order of

the verb and the subject.

- Students will be introduced on obligation at the present tense "Pour avoir 10 points, il faut..." and in the past

"Pour aujourd'hui, il fallait...) to illustrate what the students should be doing to earn the daily participation points.

Semaine 4: du 15 au 19 septembre 2008

Unit 1 - Lesson 1

- Students will review how to ask and tell time. They will also learn vocabulary & expressions related to time.

- Students will describe pictures in TB and on classroom's walls by answering the teacher's questions "Qu'est ce que

c'est?", "Qui c'est? ", "Ou se passe la scene?", "Combien y-a-t-il de personnes sur la photo?"

- Students will be introduced to the passe compose of the verb to go [je suis alle(e)] & to visit [J'ai visite]and then work

on dialogues to tell one another where they went ans what they visited

- Students will comment on the pictures of the Centre Beaubourg in Paris, La Tour Eiffel, and Le Chateau de

Versailles asking one another if they went to Beaubourg using "Est-ce que tu es alle(e) au centre Beaubourg, au chateau

de versailles...? Oui....Non...

Semaine 5: du 22 au 26 septembre 2008

Listening Comprehension

- Students will review the verb "faire" and the idiomatic expressions with faire (faire du tennis, faire du Francais...)

- Students will review the contractions with the preposition "de"and the definite articles "le, la, les, l'"

+ do the exercise 3 p.17

- Students will review the questions words "qui, que, qu', ou, d'ou, comment, pourquoi, quand, quel/quelle"

- Students will listen to a dialogue "Pierre a la gare" in the computer lab about Pierre who takes a day off and who is

about to take the train. The teacher will ask questions related to this dialogue using the above mentionned reviews

- Students will practice the pronunciation of the dialogue in class with earphones and will learn the dialogue

for homework.

Semaine 6: du 29 au 3 octobre 2008

Listening Comprehension

- Students in groups of two will act out the dialogue in class.

- Students will review the verbs "Habiter, travailler, aimer, passer, comprendre, devoir, pouvoir,

vouloir in the present & for some of them in the passe compose.

- Students will learn the differences between "Connaitre & savoir" + do Ex. 5,6 p.19 in TB

- They will make wishes using "vous desirez ?", "Je voudrais + infinitive..." (Conditional Tense) + do the practice exercise 6 p. 19

- They will make up questions using the above mentionned verbs in order to enrich the dialogue "Pierre at the train

station"

- They will imagine two dialogues corresponding to pictures in the TB p.12. Then they will listen to the dialogues

(cassettes) and compare their productions

- They will observe three pictures in TB p. 13 and then write and act dialogues

Semaine 7: du 6 au 10 octobre 2008

Unite 1 - Lesson 2

- Students will review regular, irregular and neutral adjectives + do ex. 1,2,3 p. 18 in TB

- Students will review the French currency by acting dialogues in selling and buying situations p. 20/21 in TB.

- They will learn how to fill out a cheque. They will be instructed on the partitive and will act dialogues to buy

and sell items using "Vous desirez?, je voudrais..., je ne veux pas de..., il y a ..., il n'y a pas de ..., j'ai...,

je n'ai pas de..., on a..., on n'a pas de ...

Semaine 8/9: du 13 au 24 octobre  

- Students will begin an e-portfolio encompassing their lessons/activities/assignments/field-trips... in their French class:  

1. They will present and describe themselves in the present tense

2. They will collect pictures of their vacation and label the pictures with descriptions

of locations and actions in the past tense

3. They will talk about their academic and athletic life (courses, friends, teachers, sports...) in the present and past tenses

4. They will talk about their likes and dislikes in the present and past tenses

5. They will talk about their wishes in life in the conditional tense

- Students will intensify their discovery of the French currency in written documents.

- They will be instructed on the vacation zones in France.

- Students will intensify their knowledge of "The passe compose" along with a unit related to vacation and sports.

Quarter 2 / Annee 2008 - 2009

Semaine 10/11: du 27 octobre au 7 novembre

- Students will continue to work on their e-portfolio; they will create a comic-strip (10 slides) using the verbs in the passe compose Tense.

(The comic-strip will be published in the School Newspaper, The pendleton Panther.)

- They will talk about their daily routine using reflexive pronouns and reflexive verbs in the present tense & in the passe compose tense.

- They will discuss "La revolte du samedi et du dimanche" using reflexives verbs in the negative in the present and the passe compose tense.

Semaine 12: du 10 au 14 novembre

- Students will watch a video about Le Passe Compose of Regular Verbs and will take notes.

- Students will take a test on le Passe Compose with the helping verbs etre et avoir.

- Students will continue to describe their current daily routine in the present tense and compare it with their daily

routine during this past week-end in the passe compose tense with the use of reflexive pronouns, reflexives verbs, and time markers.

Semaine 13/ 14: du 17 au 28 novembre

Il n'y aura pas d'ecole du 26 au 28 novembre: Thanksgiving Break!.....Reposez vous et revenez en pleine forme!


- Students will take a test on the reflexive verbs in the present and the passe compose tense.

- Students will discuss movies, plays, and museums using:

- Students will tell what they know and whom they know using:

Students will:

- Review Direct object pronouns

- Learn and practice Indirect Object Pronouns me, te, lui, leur, nous, vous

- Learn the location of D.O.and I.O. pronouns in sentences in the present tense and passe compose tense

Semaine 22: du 19 au 23 j an vier 2009

Students will:

- Learn how to tell people what to do using the imperative form

- Learn how to explain a minor illness to a doctor using "avoir mal a" & "souffrir"

- Learn how to have a prescription filled at the pharmacy   using the imperative form

- Learn how to use the pronoun "en" when referring to people, places, and things already mentioned

Semaine 23: du 26 au 30 janvier 2009

Students will:

- Write a 30 sentence- essay in the Passe Compose tense describing the picture "In the Doctor's Waiting Room"  -

- Read & translate Lectures Culturelles " Une consultation" p.52 in TB using the reading strategy "Identifying important concepts" 

- Discuss medical services in France versus in America

- Obtain and provide information and engage in conversations about their personal health

- Speaking and Listening Comprehension Tests on January 30th

Semaine 24: du 2 au 6 fevrier 2009  

Students will:

- Learn how to use the personal pronoun "en" when referring to people, places, and things already mentioned

- Write and act out a skit between a doctor and a patient using vocabulary/grammar (personal pronoun "en") from lesson

- Translate Conversation "Chez le medecin"

- Learn more about the French Health System (Lectures Supplementaires 1 & 2 p. 54-55 in TB)

Semaine 25/26: du 9 au 20 fevrier

Students will:

- Learn how to talk about computers, e-mail, the internet, faxes, and telephones using habitual and continuous actions in the

Imparfait tense

- Talk about what they liked to do (routine actions) in the Imparfait

- Talk about their mental or emotional states in the Imparfait

Semaine 27: du 23 au 27 fevrier

Students will:

- Take a quiz on the pronouns (DO, IO, Stress, en, and y) and the imparfait tense versus the passe compose tense (lundi 23 fevrier)

- Write an expositary 40-sentence essay in the imparfait using the following categories:

Date, Characters, Location, Characters' Physical or emotional description, Attitudes, Whishes, Routine actions

- Speaking Test (vendredi 27 fevrier)

--> Describe the picture p. 94 at the office in the Imparfait and passe compose tense

Semaine 28: du 2 au 6 mars

Students will:

- Communicate about train and plane travel

- Distinguish between local and long distance trains, modern & old fashion trains, services

on trains and airplanes, and boarding and disembarking from planes

- Learn about "venir" and the prepositions used with geographic names.

Semaine 29: du 9 au 13 mars

As part of the National Foreign Language Week, students will:

- Use Culture Grams in Proquest in order to create projects about: French Idiomatic expressions,

tongue-twisters, interesting facts, proverbs...

- Create a Trivia game related to French Culture, expressions, and grammar

- Create signs in different languages related to the subject areas taught at Pendleton

Semaine 30: du 16 au 20 mars

- Review the verbs related to movements (partir, revenir, rentrer, aller, arriver, retourner...) and

the prepositions & contractions

- Continue to learn the differences between the imperfect tense and the passe compose tense

- Communicate in spoken & written French on the following topic:

--> Traveling on board a train, Services on board an airplane, Arriving at an airport, Geography

--> The activities will cover a range of difficulty which will allow individualized instruction.

Semaine 31: du 23 au 27 mars

Students will:

Mardi 24 mars

- Read a Herald Tribume article about Dan Miller's biography and about one of his article "Things to watch in Washington"

posted in the Herald Tribune Newspaper

- Attend a conference by Congressman Dan Miller in the Mental Conditioning Room

- Write a summary about Dan Miller's biography in French in the past tenses

(Imparfait + Passe Compose)

Jeudi 26 et vendredi 27 mars

- Work on a Power Point Project Presentation: - 20 slides with at least 3 sentences per slide -

Deadline: Friday 27 mars at the end of the class - Use of past tenses & present tense

- Present their project to the class

Topic:

"Choisissez un pays francophone que vous voulez visister un jour. Trouvez des renseignements sur ce pays dans une encyclopedie, sur internet (Proquest), etc. Ensuite, dites pourquoi vous voulez visister ce pays, comment vous l'imaginez...

Vous pouvez aussi ecrire un email a une agence de voyage pour demander tous les renseignements necesssaires: quelles villes visiter, en quelle saison, quels vetements prendre,etc."

Semaine 32: du 30 mars au 3 avril:

Students will:

- Work on the dialogue "Une rencontre a Paris" between Steffi and Mark 

- Get a feel for when to use the imparfait or the passe compose by rewriting the verbs

in the dialogue in one tense or the other  

- Take notes on the pronoms relatifs "qui, que."

- Answer whether the relative pronoun "qui" or "que" in each sentence functions as the subject

or the object of the clause in the following dialogue's sentences:

line 1: ... je crois que....

line 3: ... quelqu'un qui aime...

line 4: ...je crois bien que...

line 5: ...J'ai l'impression que ce n'est pas ici que je vous ai vu...

- Act out the skit with a classmate & work on pronunciation

- Fill out hand-outs with "qui" or "que" & do ex. in TB p. 151/152

 Students will:

- Review the relative pronouns: qui/que

- Learn how to communicate with postal and bank clerks, write letters, address an enveloppe in French

- Compare & discuss American postal services to those of French post offices.

- Learn the agreement of the past participle with the helping verb "avoir"

Semaine 34: du 27 Avril au 1er Mai:

Students will:

-Take a test on pronouns, Imparfait & Passe Compose, & ther relative pronouns "qui & que"

- Learn about exchanging money and carrying out simple banking transactions

- Learn about the rate exchanges of the French, Canadian, and American currencies

- Learn about "Le conseil de l'Europe in Strasbourg" & research the aims and achievements

of the Council

- Learn about "Les Livrets de la Caisse d'Epargne"

- Play the role of the tellers / customers engaging in various bank transactions with money,

copied checks, travelers' checks (realia)

- Learn about the celebration of the 1er Mai et "Le Muguet"

Semaines 35-36: Du 4 mai au 15 Mai

Students will:

- Write, learn and act out a dialogue between a banker and a client using slang expressions related to money.

--> Work on the following critical Thinking Activity: (Supporting statements with reasons)

"A ton avis, il est important ou pas de mettre de l'argent de cote, de faire des economies? Pourquoi?"

"A ton avis, il est important ou pas de devenir riche? Pourquoi?"  

- Analyze their spending habits: Take the test "Vous etes comme la cigale ou la fourmi?

- Learn how to use reciprocal actions using reflexive pronouns and reciprocal verbs

in the passe compose tense with "etre"

- Learn the negative expressions "personne...ne" and "rien...ne" answering the questions

"Quelqu'un est/a +past participle...?", "Queque chose est/a + past participle...?

" Qu'est ce qui se passe?", "Qu'est ce qui est arrive?"

Semaines 37-38: du 18 au 29 mai:

- Discuss the movie "Les Visiteurs"

- Write a summary of it in the past tenses

- Learn the conditional mood (si je + imparfait, je + conditional mood)

- Review & practice oral questions related to students' athletic, academic and personal lives in:

the present tense, the past tenses (passe compose - Imparfait), the future tenses,

and the conditional mood.

- Reviews for the final exam which will be held on June 2d.
