About me and our school……..
This is my sixth year of teaching, and my third year at The Pendleton School
at IMG Academies, which includes Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, David
Leadbetter Golf Academy, the Baseball Academy and other sports training
facilities for soccer, basketball and swimming.
Young athletes from all over the United States and the world come to IMG to
receive professional coaching in their chosen sports. The Pendleton School is
located on the IMG campus.
Our K-12 students live, train and learn here during the school year. In
addition to making the adjustment to living away from home (many for the first
time), our students have a demanding athletic and academic schedule.
My academic background:
B.A., Political Science/Economics - Univ of Pittsburgh 1994
M.A., Secondary Education - Duquesne University 2003
currently - Educational Leadership - Univ of South Florida 2010
My work background:
I have a diverse background in education, sports and business. Before I was
a teacher I did technology work for a health care company. I have been the
owner of two small businesses, managed a 2000 member sports league and
worked as a high school basketball coach for 7 years.
As a teacher, this is my fifth year - my second year at Pendleton. I came
to Pendleton in 2007 from Washington, DC where I was a teacher of math,
government, history and life science. I grew up in Pittsburgh, PA but am
delighted to now call Bradenton home.
The prime objectives of our American History course, and our Current Events
course, will be to develop not only our knowledge and comprehension of
American History, but also analysis, synthesis and evaluation skills. We
will focus on using primary sources, writing (in many forms),
discussion/debate, reading and research. In addition, there will be a
strong focus on developing creativity with an emphasis on utilizing non-
traditional assignments and assessments.
- compare and discriminate between ideas
- assess value of theories, presentations
- make choices based on reasoned argument
- verify value of evidence
- recognize subjectivity
