January 2010
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Happy New Year!!!
As we begin this half of the school year I'd like to thank each of you for
your support. It shows in the work that the children are doing in the
classrom.
We welcomed a new student to our class on January 4. Her name is Grace
Mullins. She is from Virginia. Welcome to our class Gracie!!!
We continue to work hard each day and learn new things. The children are
continuing to make progess.
We are writing paragraphs now and learning to use a "sloppy copy" to put
our thoughts on, so our final copy will show our best work. We are learning
to write our own summaries using the Somebody Wanted But So strategy to
retell the story.
AR tests are being completed weekly, ALL of the stories in our Reading
book have AR tests that check to make sure the children are understanding
the stories. These tests are taken on the computers at school, a report is
printed, the test is graded and the grade is included in their Reading
grades on their report cards. I will be sending the reading books home from
time to time so they can read the stories to you aloud. They will take the
test the next day in class.
Lunch Bunch is a HUGE success thank you Mrs. Reynolds(Andrew's mom) for
organizing this much loved activity!! Thank you, to ALL of you who have
taken the time to come out to share your LOVE of reading with the
children!! You are the BEST!!
Thank you Mrs. Linda Lau and her AWESOME room mother team for making our
Holiday Party a success. the children enjoyed decorating their train cars
and the turned out really well. Thank You Mrs. Lau for making ALL of the
cars for the children to decorate.
Thank you all for helping the children to set up their desks for the new
year. It couldn't have been done with out your help!!
