Why are auditions held at the Elementary Level?
Auditions are held to give the students the experience of audtioning. All
students need to learn how to deal with nervousness and singing or speaking
in front of a group. It only prepares them for future auditions or speeches.
What is the audition process?
Students are auditioned in groups of 5 or more. They sing the
song "America" or "Happy Birthday". Then they read an exerpt from a
dialogue. The judges are fellow teachers that help and console each student
during the audition.
What is the criteria for acceptance into Chorus and Drama?
Students that are accepted into Chorus and Drama are exeptional academic
students. They are well behaved in and out of the classroom. They do not
have to have the best vocal or acting ability, but they must be committed
and dedicated individuals. Most students who are well behaved, hard
working, and have a basic knowledge of pitch recognition are accepted into
Chorus and Drama.
My student was not accepted into Chorus and Drama. Why?
There are usually several different reasons why a student is not accepted
into Chorus and Drama.
1. Vocal Ability is below level.
2. Teacher Recommendation.
3. The student did not fill out the audition information properly.
4. The student was disruptive during the audition process.
When does the chorus and drama meet?
Usually, Chorus and drama meets every Monday from 2:10 until 3:00pm. As we
get closer and closer to our performance date, the rehearsals my increase to
Wednesday's and Thursday's and last until 4:00p.m. The only Tuesday
rehearsals may be after an extended weekend, where a Monday was lost.
When are the auditions held?
There are auditions held for both the fall and spring semesters.
Why was my child removed from the Chorus and Drama Program?
Students will be removed from the chorus and drama program for disruptive
behavior during rehearsals, disruptive classroom behavior, several abscences
from rehearsals, and teacher recommendation. Students can also be removed
for other extreme behaviors.
Why are there so many rehearsals?
The students meet for chorus and drama for 45 minutes to an hour.
This is not sufficient time to put on a production complete with singing,
dancing, and props. More rehearsals are added as needed to ensure a
quality performance.
