Chorus and Drama Handbook

GENERAL INFORMATION

-Students participating in chorus/drama will learn various performance, singing, dance, and acting skills. Chorus/drama students will perform for the school and the community throughout the school year.

-Chorus/drama will meet every MONDAY after school from 2:10-3:00. More rehearsals will be scheduled as we move closer to a performance date.

PARENT PICK UP

-Parents must arrive on time for rehearsal pick up. Make sure that your student knows how they are getting home ahead of time. If a parent is late more that three times, the student will be removed from the chorus/drama program

REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES

-Chorus/drama is a privilege, therefore all chorus/drama students will follow the”3 strikes and your out” policy. The chorus/drama student will have 3 opportunities for misbehavior (excessive talking, absence, or rehearsal disruption) before being asked to leave the chorus/drama program.

-All chorus/drama students must be present at EVERY rehearsal. If a student misses a rehearsal but is NOT absent from school, it will count as a strike against the student.

-A strong commitment to the Musical is required. Every member of the Chorus/Drama is crucial to the show. We are a Team. This cannot be more strongly stressed. Members must attend all scheduled rehearsals. Depending on the part the student has they may not need to be at all rehearsals, please check the schedule.

-A list of rehearsal dates, rules, and guidelines will be given at the first chorus/drama rehearsal. These dates will also be available at the "Chorus and Drama Calendar" on the music website. Any discrepancies with the dates should be given to the chorus/drama teacher in writing.

-All chorus/drama students are expected to participate in a final performance.

Students must learn the value of accountability by being present for all performances. The absence of one student for a performance causes a problem for the entire chorus and drama production.

-The final 14 days before our performance, it is critical that all cast members attend all rehearsals. Please refer to the rehearsal schedule.  Students may be removed from a acting role if too many rehearsals are missed…excused or not.

SIBLINGS

-Siblings/Friends are not allowed to wait outside during chorus/drama rehearsals. Parents must find transportation home for siblings on rehearsal days.

BEHAVIOR

-Students must have excellent classroom and rehearsal behavior. Please remind your student that Chorus/Drama is a privilege and that he/she must maintain good behavior and grades in their regular classrooms in order to remain a member of either program.

-Students are expected to be responsible and to respect each other and stay quiet while others are working onstage.

AWARDS

All chorus and drama students will receive an award certificate for one completed school year in chorus and drama.  If the student is removed from the program before the end of the school year, they will not receive a certificate.  5th grade students will receive additional awards such as medals or trophies for the amount of completed years in chorus and drama.
