Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do if my child is sick? A child who is unable to attend school due to illness must bring a written note from a parent/caregiver when they return to school, to be given to their teacher. The note should explain the reason for the absence and the date/dates of absence. Without a written note the absence will be considered unexcused. Unexcused absences can result in academic penalties. What do I do if my child arrives late for school? If a child is tardy for school they must report directly to the front office prior to going to class to get a tardy slip. What if my child needs to leave early for an appointment? If the need arises for you to get your child out of school at any time during the day, please come to the office to sign him/her out. The office staff will call the teacher and have your child sent to the office prepared to leave school. How can I eat lunch with my child? Parents are welcome at any time to have lunch with their child. Parents must enter the school through the front office, sign-in and obtain a Visitor's Badge. You may eat in the lunch room or at the tables located outside of the Media Center. Please make sure your child's teacher knows if you choose to eat with your child outside. Parents wishing to take other students outside for lunch must have a signed note granting permission from that student's parent. Breakfast: Lunch: Paid - $1.00 Paid - $1.75 Reduced - $.30 Reduced - $.40 Adult - $1.75 Adult - $2.75 Milk is available for breakfast or lunch for $.50 How do I pay for breakfast and/or lunch? Money may be sent daily, however we strongly recommend that multiple meals be purchased by check (include student/teacher name on check). If you send money with your child, place it in a sealed envelope with the child's name, teacher's name and the student lunch number. If you prefer you may stop by the cafeteria before school to deposit money on your child's account. What happens if my child forgets their lunch and/or lunch money? Students who have forgotten their lunch money may borrow from the cafeteria. This money MUST be paid back to the Cafeteria Manager the very next day. What is the procedure for visiting my child's class? Parents are always welcome to visit classrooms, but we ask that you notify the teacher the day before and receive administrative approval from Mrs. Benkert our Principle. When you do visit, you must enter through the school office, sign in and obtain a Visitor's Badge. What do I do if my child is unable to participate in P.E.? A student unable to participate in Physical Education due to illness or injury needs a written note from a parent/caregiver. If the time exceeds three days, a doctor's statement is required. What if my child needs medication during the school day? All medication will be kept in the school office except those needed in specific emergencies (usually inhalers). Prescription medication must be in the original container and accompanied by a release form signed by both the doctor and parent. Office staff cannot administer any medication, even Tylenol, without the appropriate form. You are welcome to personally administer your child's medication by reporting to the office. What is my child loses something at school? Lost and found is located in the front office. Items are held for a two week period. Can my child bring a water bottle to school? Water bottles may be brought to school and kept in the backpack. It is the teacher's discretion to allow water bottles on desks. Water fountains are easily accessible throughtout the school for all children. Are hats allowed to be worn at school? Hats are only permitted during P.E. times. What happens during a Lock Down? Occasionally we receive a call from the Sheriff's Department informing us of a situation that requires a Lock Down. We have a very specific process when this occurs and have practiced it to ensure it is done quickly and safely each time it arises. When we receive a call from the Sheriff's Dearptment an announcement is made over the intercom and on walkie talkies. Teachers take all students into a classroom, lock the doors, close the blinds and turn out the lights. Students are instructed to stay still and away from windows and doors. All outside doors are locked and the administrative team is positioned in the halls to observe, all while remaining in constant contact with the front office and Sheriff Department. The safety of our students is our top priority! |
