President Report

During the month of February our class will begin a unit on Presidents. A wonderful way to
share information about our leaders is for each student to pick a president and give a
presentation to the whole class on that particular president. This presentation will include
many different parts to help each student properly prepare for their presentation. Listed below
is an outline to help you and your child organize the time to spend on each aspect of the
report. Please work on this project for 5 to 10 minutes every school night during the month of
February. Please note that each child is to write all of the information by themselves in their
own handwriting. All items of the report are due on Friday February 15, 2008.

Picking a President (This is done in class on Monday January 28, 2008)
On Monday each student choose a president to do their presentation on but picking the
president's name from a hat. The president that your child has chosen is listed on the "Mind
Map" paper.

Research: Date Completed _________________________
Please go on the internet with your child and search for information on your child's particular
president. If you do not have internet access please consider making a trip to the library to
research your child's president. If you are not able to do that please let me know and I will
print out information for your child and send it home with them. I have listed many different
sites for you to gain information from on our classroom web page.

Mind Map: Date Completed _________________________
Please read all of the research with your child and fill out the "mind map". Your will see that
this is a wonderful way for your child to organize his or her thoughts before creating the
outline.

Rough Draft: Date Completed _________________________
The next step is for your child to utilize the information that they gained from the research
and write a rough draft of their report. The rough draft should include an opening sentence, a
sentence about each part of the mind map and a closing sentence. Please feel free to help your
child improvise or edit their writing to help it to flow better or make more sense.

Final Draft: Date Completed _________________________
Help your child edit their rough draft for spelling and grammatical errors then transfer it to
the final draft paper. This is the paper with an Americana theme. Please remind them to use
their best handwriting.

Make Presidential Portrait: Date Completed _________________________
Each child is to draw a portrait of their president using crayons or pencils.
Please use the rest of the time to finish preparing and rehearse in front of your family.

Present report to class:
On Friday February 15, 2008 all students will give their presidential presentations. Please
make sure that your child brings all items of this project in on Friday morning. Please make
sure that they are stapled, bound, or in a folder so that no items of the project are misplaced.
