Born a Buckeye but raised in the northwest suburbs of Chicago,
Mr. Powell earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education at
Eastern Illinois University and a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics at
Northeastern Illinois University. After fourteen years of teaching math and
science to 4th through 8th graders at a wonderful school in the northern
Chicago suburbs, the beauty of the gulf coast tempted his wife (also a
teacher) and him to move to Sarasota in the summer of 1995. They've enjoyed
their active lifestyle, which is now dominated by raising their daughter,
Teresa, who will be in second grade this year, along with two mischievous
cats. Mr. and Mrs. Powell have been teaching at Sarasota Middle and
Brookside Middle for fourteen years.
