About The Teacher

I have been a Florida public school teacher for over 20 years, with previous
experience teaching preschool and substituting high school and college
math. My career began in Hillsborough County Schools (Tampa) teaching
middle school math changing 5 years later to work with elementary students
to encourage a love of mathematics - along with other curriculum. For a
short time I got to be a TV star on public television co-hosting a live math
homework show. Yes, you might be thinking -nerdy- but it really was fun! As
part of my journey I spent time working in Osceola County Schools (near
Orlando) where I had the opportunity to pilot many programs used by a
charter school (partnered with Disney) in Celebration, Florida. This is also
when I became a certified trainer for AIMS - Activities to Integrate
Mathematics and Science. I often draw upon these activities, so be sure to
ask your child about the cool things we do!

When my husband's job transferred us to Sarasota, I took a break for 6 years
to be home with my young girls and then we had 2 boys during this time. So
yes, your math is correct, I have 4 children! As my young ones began
entering school, my love and devotion for educating children drew me back to
the classroom at Suncoast Academy, where I have been since the first day the
school began.

I received my certification in Early Childhood (Nursery age - kindergarten),
Elementary Education through 6th grade, and 5th - 9th grade math from Palm
Beach Atlantic University. Post graduate I continued work in leadership
courses and became certified in AIMS at Fresno Pacific University. At USF I
completed additional graduate work and became endorsed in gifted education.

I absolutly love motivating, encouraging, and inspiring all children to
attain their personal best in all emotional, social, and academic areas. I
enjoy teaching language arts, with my favorite subjects being math and
science. I may possibly be one of the few and proud that looks forward to
Science Fair every year. I get excited to see the children grow through
this learning experience and hope my excitement is contagious.

In addition to my children, I have been married to my husband, David, for 14
years. We also have 2 dogs and 2 cats. So yes, if you counted 10 living
beings in my home, your math is again correct! This means our evenings and
weekends are always busy with family time, church, homework, etc. My
children attend and even one has graduated from Suncoast Academy. Without a
doubt, I enjoy my children being at Suncoast Academy, and having the
opportunity to encourage and motivate your child in a program I believe in -
a Responsive Classroom that C.A.R.E.S.!

Mission For The Class

It is my desire that each student develop a passion for learning that will
carry them through the rest of their lives. I believe every student should
work hard to excel no matter where they are in their learning. We will
work dilligently to foster a balance between hard work, socialization, and
play. I am confident that this year will be an extroidnary one!!
