Another busy week of school has flown right by! Students have been working
hard to learn about the stages of a pumpkin’s growth and what the parts are
called. Our book buddies from Mrs. Kok’s class came over to listen to a
story about a pumpkin patch. We then went to visit one and picked out a mini
pumpkin. The 5th graders helped us get creative and decorate our pumpkins.
Later, we got to stick our hands inside some big pumpkins and pull out the
ooey-gooey, yukky stuff. We counted our seeds that were found and then
graphed them as a class. This is a fantastic hands-on activity demonstrating
place value and graphing.
We celebrated with a pumpkin party on Thursday where students got to try many
different foods made with pumpkin. We had all kinds of yummy pumpkin foods
to eat, including cookies, bread, ice cream, seeds, doughnuts, and pie.
Thanks to everyone who sent something in.
In reading, students are moving right along in the reading series. Many
groups are close to finishing a book and will soon begin a new one.
In Math this week, students have been learning about graphs and tables.
Data can be displayed in many ways; bar graphs, tally tables, and picture
graphs, just to name a few. Our homework this week includes exercises to
reinforce these skills.
Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Mrs. Simunovic
