Social Studies

As a three person team, all of your teachers will be teaching Social Studies.

Akin:
Standard:  Understanding leaders, events and institutions of Europe and 
Russia.  The remainder of the marking period will continue our studies on 
Europe and Russia, particularly focusing on the history of ancient Greece and 
Rome through medieval times.  A hands on project of a Roman mosaic will be 
created in class with a very specific rating system provided.  The next 
portion of our text will be discussed in class, related to our ongoing Famous 
Facts based on "Cultural Literacy" by Hirsch, Kett and Trefil.  Reading 
comprehension sheets not completed in class are homework, with a follow up 
quiz the next day.  A summarizing chapter test may be completed solo with 
binder assistance, or with partners and no binder.  Essay questions scored as 
FCAT writing (10 of 50 points) are provided before the test for student 
research. As noted in our overview, independent research projects are 
expected in this class.  Annotated biblio info and specific project rubrics 
have already been provided, and students have been assigned specific
