Dear Parents,
      The story in your reading book this week is Kate's Game on page 14. 

The skills for the week of November 30,2009 are:
Reading:   Story: Kate's Game
           Genre: Fantasy- A made up story that could not really happen.
Skill:     Story Structure- Plot Development: Make Predictions
           High Frequency Words: hello could walk  pull all oh
Phonics:   Long a
Grammar:   Verbs- Action Words

Math:      Subtraction -   Chapter 8
Writing:   Writing Sentences using adjectives, describing words to make 
           our sentences more interesting.
           5 Point check- Capitalization,Punctuation, Spacing, Spelling      
           Sentences must make sense!
Science/Social Studies: Home and Family/Map Skills
   
     The high frequency reading words are used over and over again in a
variety of reading material and your child should be able to read,write,and
spell these words with ease.  Your child will receive a new group of high
frequency reading words each week. The words will go home in your child's
agenda every Friday. Your child will write these words on index cards for
homework each week. You can mix up the index cards and use as them as flash
cards so that your child will be able to read the words quickly. Use these
steps to teach your child the high
frequency words. 
              
        The high frequency reading words for this week are :

* SAY      Point to and say the word.
* READ     Have your child read the word.
* WRITE    Have your child write the word.
* USE      Have your child use the word in a sentence.
           Repeat this process for each word.
*Practice  Mix up the words and see if your child can read the words
           fluently without sounding the words out each time.
           Start over the week end so that your child comes to school
           Monday of each week ready to read the story with me.
* If your child is able to read these words with ease then have your child
practice spelling these words.
