Homework

Research shows that HOMEWORK AND STUDY TIME are the reasons why some children are at the Head of their Class. I want all my students to be at the Head of their Class. Homework is a very important part of your child’s ability to retain information that is taught in class. Homework is given because students need to practice doing things that were taught during the school day. The assignments are intended to help them remember and be able to build on new skills. I need to see your child’s homework so I can tell if they’ve learned the less or if they need more help. In addition to regularly assignment homework your child may have additional homework due to the incompletion of assigned class work. Students who do not complete or turn in their homework will still be expected to turn in his/her homework. There will be a -10 point deduction for each day it is late. According to the Somerset handbook, when a student fails to complete his/her homework, a form will be sent home to the parent. If a student receive three no homework forms, he or she will serve a detention.

READING LOGS:WILL READ AND LOG EACH WEEK UNTIL THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.
*Students will read and log every night for homework.  All logs are due every Monday for the previous week.  Each nightly log entry is has a requirment of six sentences within their summary. Students recieve a check or an X. If any day is incomplete or they do not have a minimum of six complete sentence, they will recieve an X. It is eqivalent to a zero.

HOMEWORK PACKETS: NO MORE PACKETS FOR THE YEAR WILL GO HOME.
Students recieve their packets and reading logs on Monday.  They are due on Monday. It is the responsibility of the student to get a homework packet and a reading log off of the blue table each Monday as stated on the Promethean Board as a part of their morning routine. It will be this way until the end of the school year. If a student misplaces them and there are extra copies, they are aware of that policy as to where the extras are located. Students who do not turn in a homework packet or reading log will recieve a form to go home each Monday or Tuesday the latest. On the fourth week of no homework, students will recieve a detention.
