I currently teach IB English IV & Pre IB Inquiry Skills.
I am Australian by birth, living there most of my life, but now my second
home is here in Florida. The long trip across the Pacific was well worth
it! I am married, with a Dalmatian named "Spock" and a new Bernese Mountain
Dog puppy named "Mojo," and four cats; one born right here at South Fork.
My higher education was completed in Australia at the University of
Queensland in Brisbane where I earned my B.A. (majoring in English, History
and Japanese), Postgraduate Diploma of Education, and Masters Degree in
Educational Studies. http://www.uq.edu.au/
I have been teaching since 1996 in both Australia and
the United States. I have recently certified as a National Board Certified
Teacher of English and Language Arts and will soon resume my PhD in
Educational Leadership and Curriculum.
Since teaching at South Fork, I've been involved in many extra-curricular
activities such as JAPAS Sponsor, Publicity Officer, IB CAS Coordinator, SIP
Coordination and Head of Department of School Leadership.
I believe that as a teacher that my role is to nurture and guide student
learning. My educational philosophy is based upon the concept that
educators are teachers of life. As an educator, I am committed to fostering
a learning and working environment which maximizes opportunities for all
students to realize their personal potential. Through a dedication to
educational "best practice", teachers can facilitate students' understanding
of the relevance of classroom learning to the wider social context. As a
teacher, my role is to nurture a student's development and encourage them to
become active and reflective citizens with a disposition to lifelong
learning.
I love teaching at SFHS, and enjoy making a difference in the lives of my
gifted and talented students.
