About Mrs. Burch

I enjoy being the art teacher at Southside Elementary where I've taught art since August of 1996. In 1995 I taught fourth grade at Southside. From 1979 - 1995  I taught health education, peer counseling, drawing and painting, and mathematics at New Directions Alternative High School. I have both a Master's and a Bachelor's degree in education and have also completed the certificate program in Art and Healing at Ringling College of Art and Design, where I continue to take community education classes just for fun.

In August of 2012 I had the pleasure of attending Zentangle® teacher training in Providence, Rhode Island, with the creators of Zentangle, Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts. In addition to having a lot of fun with Zentangle art at home for my own pleasure,  I will be weaving it into the clubs I lead and classes I teach at Southside.

In my free time I enjoy riding bikes with my husband who also teaches at  Southside. I also enjoy reading, writing, going to the theater,  playing with my dogs, spending time with my two granddaughters, and especially, I love making art.

I love to make all kinds of art. For many years I worked mostly in clay and had a potter's wheel and kiln at home. I love drawing and painting. Most of the works  I've  exhibited and sold have been still life and fantasy oil paintings or portraits in a variety of mediums. These days I love to paint in oil and to play with mixed media acrylic and collage, and of course, make Zentangle creations. I find inspiration working in the art room with all of the creative Southside children.
