The Southside 'specials schedule' operates on a rotating basis. I see each class for one calendar week which is usually 5 days (fewer if there is a holiday). Then the children go on to the other fabulous special areas and return to me seven weeks later. This amounts to about 22-30 fifty-five minute classes per year. I try to pack the most information, skills and art play into each week that I possibly can. With this schedule, if a child is out (absent) sick or on vacation for a week he or she may miss all of the scheduled art for the quarter and will be given a grade of 'not evaluated'.
Due to how holidays and professional days are scheduled, every class is not working on the same type of project at the same time. Never-the–less I attempt to give every child a wide range of artistic experiences in the art room. At the end of the year, not every child has had an identical year of art, but I am confident they have had a year of high quality art experiences.
