banner painted for arts luncheon at Van Wezel

Southside students painted a banner for the CSPA (Community Schools Partnership for the Arts) Principals' Luncheon held at Van Wezel last fall. Southside was given 'music' as the theme for our banner. Abigail sketched this banner, the idea taken from a Romare Bearden poster. Bearden was a collage artist who was also a jazz musician. He made many music themed pieces of art. Several students painted the banner after Abigail got it sketched.

Clay Dragon

In December, at Southside Celebrates the Arts Night, we showcased art from third graders and art clubs in the art room. Many clay birds, houses and dragons were on display.
