Why not consider a day trip to one of our SW Florida museums?

The Naples Museum of Art.
This small but lovely museum has three floors of exhibits. They
have some very nice Chihuly glass installations. Check their web
site to see what's coming. They get great temporary exhibits.

The Ringling Museum of Art.
Our local museum has much to offer. Admission to the art museum
is free for residents on Mondays. In addition to an outstanding
collection of Dutch and Baroque, there are rotating exhibits.
Check the
calendar for children's and family activities, especially on
Saturdays. The
Historic Asolo Theater, on the grounds, offers many fine shows
and usually an
engaging circus themed show each summer.

Museum of Fine Art, St. Petersburg, Florida
This is a wonderful museum with a wide ranging collection and
great temporary exhibits. Several of the artists we study at
Southside are represented here. Only 45 minutes away from
Sarasota, it is located across the street from the pier on the
bayfront in downtown St. Pete. Check their calendar for special
exhibits and family activities.

The Salvador Dali Museum of Art
The new Dali museum is open and worth the trip to St. Pete. There
are free headsets to wear as you tour the collection and there
are special children's explanations of the pictures complete
with sound effects. We are lucky to have such an extensive
collection of this surrealist's art so close to home.

This is a site for art activities.
The National Gallery of Art provides this site for children to
enjoy a variety of art related games and activities on line. I
have used the Collage Machine in art class. It can help with
understanding the concepts of transparency, rotating and
flipping objects, and supporting visual and spacial intelligence.
