Child Lures Prevention Program

Our teachers will be presenting the Child Lures Prevention School Program to their students this year, beginning in October. Kindergarten through grade eight will be participating in this program and each grade level will be covering different lessons. (I will be the coordinator and consultant for this program.)

An informational parent meeting for this program is scheduled for Wednesday, September 30 after morning prayers in the music room. A notice about this meeting was sent home with each student on Monday, September 28. If you were not able to attend this meeting but would like the informational materials sent home with your child, please fill out and return the form that was sent home or e-mail me with your child's name and grade and a request for the Child Lures Prevention Program materials.

The Child Lures Prevention School Program was developed by Ken Wooden, a former teacher, political consultant, and television/print journalist. Information about this program can be found at http://www.childluresprevention.com. Parent Guides and Student Personal Safety Workbooks for this program can be purchased through their web site.

Contrary to popular belief, children are not totally defenseless: Child Lures teaches children critical thinking -- the best defense against victimization of sexual or other abuse and abduction. This program presents 15 favorite ploys, or "lures," used by actual pedophiles and abductors to secure their victims. The program then offers effective strategies and practice scenarios for children and parents.

The Child Lures Prevention Program:

  • Presents lures and prevention strategies in a nonfrightening manner
  • Clarifies the concept of law, giving children the confidence to assert themselves when confronted by potential abusers
  • Stresses a child's right to basic bodily privacy and ownership
  • Encourages children to recognize, trust, and follow their instincts
  • Instills within children the realization that they have the right to be treated with respect and dignity
  • Reinforces the notion that the vast majority of people are good, caring, and safe

Students who participate in the Child Lures School Program will learn:

  • Valuable life skills to help them recognize and avoid people, situations and decisions that threaten their personal safety. To recognize, trust and follow their instincts about people and situations.
  • The personal boundaries that no one, not even a relative, should ever cross.
  • Confidence in resisting those who attempt to lure them into dangerous situations or unhealthy behavior.
  • How to report abuse or attempted abuse to trusted adults.
  • The importance of reporting such incidents.
  • How alcohol and other drugs threaten their personal safety, as well as their personal potential.
  • Their own role and responsibility in helping to keep their school safe and violence-free.

Please contact me if you have any questions about this program.
