The Underground Railroad
At this National Geographic site, students follow a route to freedom
based on the actual journeys of runaway slaves during the second half of the
19th century. Decisions must be made along the route and as they relive the
experiences of the Underground Railroad, students also learn the
consequences of those choices. In addition to the information provided about
the journey itself, the site also provides a timeline, a map of Underground
Railroad routes, photographs and brief biographies of those who worked to
free the slaves, lessons and activities for classroom use, and links to many
additional resources.

At this National Geographic site, students follow a route to the
west based on the actual journey of Lewis & Clark. Decisions must be made
along the route and as they relive the experiences of the daring expedition,
students also learn the consequences of those choices. In addition to the
information provided about the journey itself, the site also provides actual
journal entries and links to many additional resources.
