My name is Joanna Wascom. I just completed my second year teaching
Preschool here at St. John Catholic School. I was fortunate to become
a member of the St John's family three years ago when my son started K4.
A little about myself...
I grew up in Nova Scotia Canada. My husband's military career has led to me
to Panama City. We have two children. Carter is seven and Hali is five.
My education background is Nutrition and Education.
I worked as a Licensed Nutritionist for the Women Infant's and Children
(WIC) program for over 3 years.
I am now certified by the Florida Department of Education to teach Pre K3 to
Third Grade.
I decided to change my career to teaching three years ago when
I had the opportunity to spend some time teaching my son's K4
class about the benefits of a healthy diet. I was amazed how much the
children learned and was pleasantly surprised at the impact the class had on
them. Each time I would see one of the children, they couldn't wait to tell
me about the healthy changes that they had made to their diet. It was very
rewarding for me to see the children learning and I realized the impact that
we can make on them in the classroom, especially when we educate them at an
early age.
I love being a child educator. I realize now more than ever how
impressionable our children are and how essential it is to establish a solid
foundation for them to learn upon. I enjoy teaching here at St John’s. It
amazes me to watch my students grow spiritually, socially and academically.
I thank God and the St John family for giving me this wonderful opportunity.
I am excited to teach K5 this year and work with Cathy Wilson. She will be
my very valuable helper. She has been in K5 for 12 years and just loves the
children. She has been married 38 years and has 3 sons who
went to St. Johns as well. Mrs. Wilson is a big chocolate lover. She
is also a Seminole!
My mission is:
*To provide an environment where children feel safe and loved.
*To create a place where children learn how to be friends, share, take
turns, play together, and show kindness and respect to one another.
*To teach using various learning skills and hands on experiences.
*To discover we are God's wonderful creation and each child is a special
gift from God.
