Parents,

        This will be a short week with Wednesday off, but there is still a lot to cover.  This is a review week since we are on chapter 10 in reading and it is the end of the second theme.  I gave the children the first theme test and I thought it was too long and involved for a second grader.  I have broken the test down and we are working on parts of it all week in grammar, phonics, and reading packets like we always do.  They will have a normal reading comprehension test and spelling test on Friday.  I think the test is a great review tool broken down that way and they will get more out of it if we work on it together in class than give them a huge test at the end of the week.  I want them to LEARN the material and I don’t think a test is a good LEARNING tool.  In class, in a positive atmosphere, they will gain (and hopefully retain) more of what we are covering.

     This week is also the Harvest Festival and Sheryl Dealy has been working so hard on pulling it all together.  Please volunteer some time to work the booths on Saturday and help us out. There is a bulletin board outside the office and a sign-up sheet by the classroom.  There is also a sign-up sheet for the Mini Pow-Wow we are having on the 20^th.  You will be receiving official invitations to that this week.

      I didn’t get to the Lures Prevention last week but we will try to fit it in this week. Often we have time in the afternoon, one afternoon last week I had them working right until 2:30.  I know they were as tired as I was when that day was over!

Phonics- Review- “igh” “ay”, “ar”, “oa”, “ow” , compound words

Grammar- Review of singular and plural nouns, proper nouns

Religion- Review of chapter 8 Monday November 9^th, Test Friday November 13^th, Begin Chapter 9 “God Gives Us Laws”

Math- Finish Chapter 6 “Number Concepts and Patterns”, Pre-test Friday November 13^th, Test Monday November 16^th.

Science- Continue Chapter 3 “Energy”

Social Studies- Continue reading/studying parts for Pilgrim presentations on November 20^th.

Writing- Finish final copy of invitations to go home to parents
