Parents,

Happy New Year!  Thank you to all the parents who made the party such a success and all the nice gifts you gave me. 

It amazing that the vacation went so quickly, but I am rested and ready to go again!  Back to the regular schedule with lots of work ready to go for the kids!

This  week I will be sending hone a reading book for each of the children and a new reading log if you need one.  This is a cute series that is a short chapter book.  If it is too difficult let me know and I can send something else home.  If a book is at their correct reading level they should be able to read about 95 percent of the words and understand what they are reading.  If they miss more than that it’s usually too hard and becomes frustrating, which we don’t want.  Sometimes it will be too easy and then they might need something a little more challenging.  It’s important to continue to work on their reading skills so that they will be well prepared for Grade 3.  Please support what we’re doing at school, by continuing to read with your child at home.

There will be some reviews this week, but no real tests except for spelling and reading comprehension at the end of the week.  Next week is a heavy week of tests and reviewing from the last four weeks.  We have this week to ease back into the school routine. 

I am implementing a new behavior strategy.  We will still have the green, yellow and red faces, but with this new strategy they can earn privileges of their choice for good behavior.  We’ll see if they like it.  It has worked before in other classes for me.

Science- finish Chapter 4 “Energy for Living”, Review Friday Jan. 8, test Wed. Jan 13.

Writing- short paragraph outlining, writing
