What do I do if I am absent?

Upon your return, you need to see me after class to discuss what you missed.
Please remember the School's policy is that students have one day to make up
missed assignments for every day that they miss.

Why do we have to be Lexile tested every six weeks?

Because you are practicing your reading skills nearly two hours per day, it
is expected that your reading abilitiy will improve at a faster rate. A
reading test every six weeks lets you see that improvement.

How can I improve my reading ability on my own?

Read, Read, Read. Subscribe to a magazine you enjoy and read it cover-to-
cover. Read the newspaper.

Read outloud to yourself or to your parent(s).

Try to read at least 20 minutes per day outside of school.

Will I have to take a reading class next year?

Students who do not earn a minimum FCAT reading score of 323 are
automatically placed in a reading development class. This, however, is not
all bad because in sophomore reading an extensive amount of time is spent
preparing for the 10th grade FCAT exam.

The reading class will only be one period per day instead of two.

Will I be in Read180 next year?

Probably not. I typically do not recommend sophomore Read180 for those
students who were enrolled in Read180 as freshmen.
