Welcome to our website. Here you will find everything you need to know
about our class. Please check us out frequently!

We will be having a test worth 3 grades on Chapter 10 tomorrow, Thursday!
Please make sure you review the online textbook and take the Interactive
Practice Test. You can only receive extra credit if you showed work for each
and every problem.
I will no longer be accepting late assignments. It has gotten out of
control. You must be responsible. Assignments are due on their due date,
not after. If you are absent to receive an assignment, it is your
responsibility to come early in the morning to make it up, or better yet,
just look online on this website. If you are absent on the day an assignment
is due, then it must be turned in immediately upon your return.
Summer school is not being offered for 6th graders needing to recover a
course. Only FL Virtual School will be available. Students will need to
complete a 36 week Online Math course in about 7-8 weeks in order to receive
credit. Students who are in danger of failing have been notified and forms
have been sent home for parent signature. This is a difficult task. I
encourage you to work with a tutor if you have to take this course.
I am often asked what happens after FCAT Testing. The answer is simple. We
keep learning!!! We will be reviewing skills taught this year as well as
preparing for 7th grade Math. For some of you, this is the most important
quarter because you need a good grade this quarter in order to pass. I have
already spoken to some of you about what you need. I also sent home slips to
be signed by a parent with some students letting them know exactly what they
need in order to pass Math. As you may already know, you must have 10 points
accumulated in each class in order to pass to the next grade. The points are
calculated as follows for each grading quarter:
A = 10 points
B = 7.5 points
C = 5 points
D = 2.5 points
F = 0 points

Please join us tonight for our Annual Talent Show which will take place at the
Julius Littman Theater at 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door for
$12.00.
Students began their end-of-the year Post-Test today. This is the same test
that was taken in August! I can't wait to see the scores which will show how
much was learned this year. There will be a prize for the most improvement
shown. We will continue working on this test on Monday. Students should have
made a mental note of what they were rusty on while taking their test today
and use this weekend to review those skills.
Interims Progress Reports will go home on May 2nd (or May 3rd if they are
participating in"Take Your Child to Work Day"). You know what that means...we
are halfway through the last marking period! Please have your parents sign
and return them the next day.
May 2nd is recognized as Miami-Dade County's "Take Your Child to Work Day".
If students are participating, they must have returned a signed field-trip
form, otherwise their absence will be unexcused. I have given an assignment
which will be graded. Students are to interview or observe their parent on
how math is used at their job. They must then write a short paragraph (2-5
sentences), to tell me how math is used at that particular job. If they do
not participate and come to school, they will have an alternate assignment
that will be graded instead.
May 3rd is the Middle School Award Ceremony to recognize 3rd Quarter Honor
Roll students. Students involved have received invitations.
May 7th will be 6th Grade Field-Day. This is one of my favorite activities.
I love how my kids get together and compete for a "DOMO" win. Sportmanship
and cooperation play an important role on this day. Please make sure you have
plenty of water and sunscreen for this event.

The moment of truth has arrived!!! Our students will be taking the Math FCAT
on Monday, April 15th. We have been working hard all year and I am confidant
that the results will show how far we've come. My students are as ready as
they can be. My expectations have been high and my students have met and at
times surpassed those expectations. I am a very proud teacher!
If you want to review a little bit more before Monday, you can work on the
online text completing the Interactive Practice Tests/Quizzes for each
Chapter. You can also check out some sample questions at
http://fcat.fldoe.org/fcat2/.
There are just a few more things to take into account for the upcoming week.
I spoke to my students in class but want to make sure that my instructions
are reiterated: 1) Have a stress free day and be in bed by 8:00 p.m. on
Sunday night. You have no idea how a good night's rest helps with the long
hours you will be testing. 2) Get to school on time each day. Absences and
tardies are detrimental to the testing process. If you are tardy or absent,
you will not be able to test with your class. If you leave school before
completing your test, you will not be able to go back to it. 3) Eat a
balanced breakfast on Monday morning and everyday of the test. (That means no
junk food) Free breakfast is served at school starting at 7:45 a.m. Because
of the testing schedule, our lunch time will be later than usual. We will
provide a snack. 4) If at all possible, leave electronic devices at home.
If you are found with any electronic device (cell phone) during testing or
bathroom breaks, your test will be invalidated. 5) Use up all the time
alloted for the test. Don't finish early and sit there. Go back and re-do
every problem. You will always catch something the 2nd or 3rd time through
that you didn't catch the first time, just like when you see a movie again.
If it took you 40 minutes to answer all the questions, then it should take
you 40 minutes to check them over if you are doing it right! 6) Show all your
work! This is how you will avoid mistakes.
Reading FCAT will be conducted on the computers this year. Some students
will be taking the test on Tuesday and Wednesday, while others will be taking
it on Thursday and Friday.
With the exception of some, students will remain in homeroom classes the
entire day for this testing week. They will not be attending regular
scheduled classes and therefor will not have daily assignments from each
teacher. Some teachers have provided assignments in advance of this
situation. My students are to be working on all assignments that have been
previously given and have them ready for me upon their return to class.

I will now end without wishing you luck...you don't need luck. Just
RELAX...you are READY!!! I have made sure of that. Continue to make me
proud!
March 15, 2013
Our PTSA is asking our students to participate in our newest fundraiser. Only
students who show interest will receive a sale packet since we have a limited
supply. If you would like to help sell delicious cookies, please ask your
homeroom teacher for a packet.
Our Project Sentry assembly will take place on Monday, March 18th during 1st
period. Students whose parents elected to have their child not participate,
will have an alternate assignment with Mrs. Perdomo.
Our own resource officer, Officer Gonzalez, along with several special guests
will be presenting SPRING SAFETY NIGHT to parents of 5th-8th grade students
on Monday, March 18th @ 6:00 p.m. Every parent of a teenager should attend
this one in order to understand the signs of substance use and prevention.
You will
not believe your ears! Since I feel this presentation is of the utmost
importance, I am offering "PERDOMO POINTS" to any student who brings me back
the signature belonging to any school employee that was present at the
meeting.
Tuesday, March 19th is our field-trip day to the Dade County Youth Fair.
Students who are not attending the field-trip will have an alternate class
assignment for the day.
Those attending should bring $20-40 to cover the costs of rides, games,
souvenirs, and food. The admission and bus fare have been paid for already.
They should also bring a bag lunch if they do not want to purchase food at the
fair.
There will be a test covering Chapters 2-5 through 2-9 on Wednesday, March
21st. Students may take the Interactive Practice Test for Chapter 2 for extra
credit since the beginning lessons of the Chapter have already been covered.
This extra credit must be signed by a parent in order to be accepted.
Thursday, March 21st will be the last day of the 3rd grading period. Please
make sure all assignments have been turned in so that you will not end up with
a "ZERO" at the last minute which you will not be able to replace.
There will be no school on Friday, March 22nd. It is a Teacher Planning Day.
This is the day that your teachers will average out all your grades and
submit them for printing.
Students will be receiving a Spring Break Packet/FCAT Review that needs to be
completed during Spring Recess. Remember... NO WORK, NO CREDIT! Work first
and play later on this break! FCAT Testing will take place 2 weeks after we
return from our break beginning on April 15th-26th and I want you to be
ready.
HAPPY GREEN DAY!
March 4, 2013
The test that was scheduled for today had to be postponed due to the
malfunction of the school's copy machines. I am hoping to have the copies
needed to administer the assessment tomorrow. If I do not, then the test
will be postponed until Thursday, March 7th. I do not like to move on before
completing a unit, but I am going to have to so that we do not get behind.
We still have several skills to cover before FCAT testing takes place. Sorry
for this inconvenience...take advantage of it and prepare more!!!
Articulation cards went home today. Please discuss your elective selections
with parents, numbering them in order of preference, and have your parent
sign on the bottom line. Remember, the back of the form should only be
signed if you are opting out of P.E.
Please return your Project Sentry permission slips.
March 1, 2013
There will be a test on Monday, March 4th covering Lessons 9-1 through 9-4.
Please prepare by completing the Interactive Practice Test for Chapter 9 and
watching the tutorial videos and power point presentations. Print out the
results and have them signed by a parent to receive extra credit points that
will raise your test grade one whole letter grade. Remember, I will not
grade papers of students who do not follow the correct process for
calculating area. You must first write the formula, then substitute the
variables with the numbers given, then compute and show work on the side if
necessary, and finally write your answer in squared units. Examples:
2
A = 1/2 bh A = 1/2 h (b1-b2) 17
A = 1/2 (3 x 4) A = 1/2 (3)(7+10) x 3
A = 1/2 (12) A = 1/2 (3)(17) 51
A = 6 units squared A = 1/2 (51)
A = 25.5 units squared
Please remember to bring back your Project Sentry permission slips to your
homeroom teacher to participate in this informative assembly.
There will be an articulation meeting for all 6th grade students on Monday,
March 4th during homeroom class and 1st period. This will be when you
receive your subject selection cards for next year. We will discuss your
class options and requirements. Then you will take the forms home for your
parents to sign.
Our own resource officer, Officer Gonzalez, along with several special guests
will be presenting SPRING SAFETY NIGHT to parents of 5th-8th grade students
on Monday, March 18th @ 6:00 p.m. Every parent of a teenager should attend
this one to understand the signs of substance use and prevention. You will
not believe your ears! Since I feel this presentation is of the utmost
importance, I am offering "PERDOMO POINTS" to any student who brings me back
the signature belonging to any school employee that was present at the
meeting. February 21, 2013
Interim Progress Reports went home today. Please have parents sign them on
the bottom and return them to your homeroom teacher.
There will be a quiz on Monday, February 25th covering Lessons 9-1 through 9-
3. Please prepare by completing the Interactive Practice Quiz for each of
those lessons and watching the tutorial videos and power point
presentations. They do not need to be printed out. Remember, I will not
grade papers of students who do not follow the correct process for
calculating area. You must first write the formula, then substitute the
variables with the numbers given, then compute, and finally write your answer
in squared units. Ex.
A = 1/2 bh
A = 1/2 (3 x 4)
A = 1/2 (12)
A = 6 units squared
Our school will be an "all-quiet" campus on Tuesday morning, February 26th
for the administration of the 4th and 8th grade FCAT Writing Assessment.
Therefor, I will probably not see my 2nd period class. Please make sure you
keep up by checking the class website for the homework you will be
responsible for.
February 8, 2013
The Math Interim Challenge is over. 150 of my students participated in this
event. They simply had to do their best on the Winter Math Interim and if
they got an "A" on it, their name was entered in our class raffle to win a
giant, 5 pound, solid chocolate, Hershey Bar. Students could also use
their "Perdomo Points" earned for good grades, to obtain more raffle tickets
so that they could increase their chances of winning the big prize. This
afternoon, shortly after school, I mixed the raffle tickets real good and
pulled one out of the stack without looking. Bela covered my eyes! Ms.
Baron and Mrs. Kocur were my witnesses, and the whole event was video taped
as proof.
AND THE WINNER IS-------------->>Estefania from my 4th period class!
Congratulations! All other raffle ticket holders will receive a consolation
prize.
My students seemed to enjoy this special raffle quite a bit and to be honest,
I had terrific fun with it as well. I am on the lookout for the next great
item so that we can do it again. Donations will be accepted and appreciated.
Report Cards were distributed earlier this week. Please make sure that they
are signed by your parents and shown to your homeroom teacher so that they
may check you off of their class list. Please be familiar with the Middle
School Point System. At this time, you should have a minimum of 5 points in
each of your classes for the first 2 quarters of school. Point values are as
follows: A=10, B=7.5, C=5, D=2.5, F=0. If you do not have a minimum of 5
points, students and parents need to get in contact with the teachers!!!
We have begun our 40 Day Countdown to FCAT. As review, we will be completing
FCAT stlyle problems each day for the next 40 days. On Mondays, students
will be introduced to 5 FCAT style problems that will be teacher-directed.
On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, students will practice the same 5
problems with different numbers independently. We will then review each
problem extensively. On Fridays, students will be assessed on the same 5
problems that they have been computing, practicing, and taking notes on for
the entire week. Students will be able to review their notes on the previous
4 days of work while taking the assessment each Friday. This will be a
graded each week! Booklets are secured material and may not be removed from
the classroom at any time! FCAT Testing is scheduled for the weeks of April
15th-26th.
Their will be a quiz on Monday covering Lessons 8-6 and 8-7 (Perimeter and
Circumference). You may study by watching the tutorial videos or power point
presentations on the online textbook, or by completing the Interactive
Practice Quiz for each of those lessons.
Tuesday, February 12th is the date for the first 6th grade field-trip.
Students who met the criteria for the field-trip, received forms and are all
set for a fun filled day of Science. Students who did not meet the criteria
will follow their regular class schedule. If you did not meet the criteria
this time, make sure you do what is needed for the next one. Students CAN
NOT have: 1) more than 3 unexcused absences or tardies, 2) any 3's in effort
on report card, 3) any D's or F's in conduct. The next field trip is to the
Dade County Youth Fair...my favorite!
February 14th is the award assembly for Middle School students who have made
the Honor Roll for the 2nd Quarter. Students participating have received an
invitation.
Interim Reports for the 3rd Quarter will go home Feb. 20th. Our school is
encouraging a "Go Paperless" initiative. To participate, parents must log on
to their Parent Portal and sign up. Follow these steps to participate:

progress report.
January 28, 2013
Once again, I'd like to thank my students and their families for the generous
gifts sent for my birthday. I can see I am making an impact on them by the
gifts they give me! One student brought me a mug that reads "Simplify".
Interim testing has begun. The following homerooms will be tested on Math
first on Mon. and Tue.: Mrs. Perdomo's, Mr. Ramirez, Ms. Ward's, and Ms.
Williams. The other four homerooms will test Math on Wed. and Thur. :Ms.
Alvarez's, Mrs. Burrell's, Mrs. Kocur's, Ms. Baron's. Please continue to
review your Winter Packet and all the great notes we took as well as Chapters
4, 6, 7 and 8 (Mostly 4 and 7) from the online text.
I will be collecting the Winter Packets after testing is over. As I've told
you repeatedly, I will be looking for work in pencil and notes in pen on every
single problem. This is an easy "A". Don't miss out on this opportunity to
improve your grade. NO WORK=NO CREDIT!
I will not be seeing all of my classes this week due to testing. You are
still responsible for all of your assignments. Please be prepared for class
each day. You have had plenty of time for all of the assignments given. It
is your responsibility to keep up with them. You may find them all on the
homework section of our class website.
January 8, 2013
Welcome Back! I would like to once again thank many of my students and their
families for their very generous holiday gifts. I am deeply moved by the
outpour of gratuity and appreciation I have received. I am so very fortunate
to be part of your lives.
I hope that everyone had a restful Winter Break and has regained their
energy. It is imperative that every student attend school everyday in order
to prepare for our upcoming Winter Interim Assessments which will take place
the week of January 22nd. The Interim Assessment will be worth 4 grades and
will cover all the material learned in the 2nd Quarter of this school year
(Chapters 4, 6, 7, and 8). The grades will appear in the 3rd Grading Period
grades.
There will be a quiz worth 2 grades on Thursday, Jan. 10th covering Lessons 7-
1 to 7-3. Please make sure you study by reviewing your notes and taking the
Interactive Practice Quizzez online.
We will review all of Chapter 7 on Friday and we will have our Chapter test
on Monday, Jan. 14th. This test will be worth 3 grades!
The last day of the 2nd Grading Period is Thursday, Jan. 17th. As such, any
make-up work or re-do assignments must be turned in by Wednesday, Jan. 16th
to avoid receiving a "ZERO" on missing assignments. If you have an empty
spot in the gradebook, you must check with me before or after school so that
I can explain what you are missing. Teachers will be busy tabulating grades
on the Teacher Planning Day, Friday, Jan. 18th, which means "NO SCHOOL" for
students.
There will be no school on Monday, Jan. 21st in observance of Dr. Martin
Luther King Jr. Day.
We have received our Scholastic Math Magazines and will begin working in them
after Winter Interim Testing is complete.
December 19, 2012
Winter Packets have been distributed by your Math teacher and are mandatory
due on Jan. 7th (Each problem must have work shown...NO WORK, NO CREDIT). We
will go over every single problem upon your return to school in January. You
will have to do some research to answer some of the questions for skills you
may be rusty on. Please refer to chapters 6, 7, and 8 of your online text.
I know how very important it is to have some time to relax and spend with
family, but we can not afford to lose the pace that we have worked so hard to
achieve. It is imperative that we continue reviewing during the 2 weeks that
we are away from school. Shortly upon our return, we will be faced with our
Winter Interim Assessments and we need to be ready for them if we are to keep
our status of the highest scoring school in all of our Region!!! There is
also a Winter Packet that was put out by Miami-Dade County Public Schools
which is optional. I encourage my students to take a look at them and
challenge themselves to complete the activities. It can be found at
http://math.dadeschools.net/documents/winterPackets/A-Middle/Winter%
20Packet_Grade%206_2012-2013.pdf .
December 11, 2012
There will be a quiz on Chapters 7-4 and 7-5 tomorrow worth 2 grades. Please
make sure you come see me with any questions tomorrow morning. Please do not
come with blank homework sheets. I will only help those who help themselves
and demonstrate effort. To prepare, you should take the Interactive Practice
Quiz for those lessons, review the workbook pages for those lessons
(specifically the Apply It pages), and watch the tutorial videos and
powerpoint presentations.
We will also be having a general test that will cover Fractions, Decimals, and
Percents on Monday, December 17th. This test will be worth 3 grades. You can
study for this by reviewing Chapters 4 and 7.
Our Scholastic Math Magazine order has been placed. Thank you to all the
parents who sent in their $5.00. I know you guys are excited about them and
want them NOW but we must be patient. We will begin using this resource after
the Winter Break.

November 28, 2012
There has been a change in the schedule. The quiz on Chapters 4-5 through 4-
7 for Thursday, November 29th worth 2 grades has been postponed until Friday,
November 30th. We will spend Thursday class time reviewing for it. Please
make sure you take the Interactive Practice Quizzes for each of those lessons
and come see me in the morning if you need extra help.
The Honor Roll assembly for grades 5-8 will be on Friday, November 30th at
7:30 a.m. Those students receiving an award have been notified and their
parents have been invited to attend. I sure hope to see some support for our
middle school students.
November 27, 2012
I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving Holiday and took the time to
reflect on how fortunate they are.
We will be taking a quiz on Chapters 4-5 through 4-7 on Thursday, November
29th worth 2 grades. We will spend Wednesday class time reviewing for it.
Please make sure you take the Interactive Practice Quizzes for each of those
lessons and come see me in the morning if you need extra help.
Scholastic Math Magazines have been ordered and should be arriving soon. I
am excited about this activity as I believe it will help prepare my students
for FCAT and make them more successful in solving real world problems using
logic and higher thinking skills. Some students have not turned in their
$5.00 payment yet. Please make sure to bring it in as soon as possible to
reimburse your teacher who has already made the payment.
Interim Progress Reports will be going home on Tuesday, December 4th. This
is the half-way point of the 2nd grading period. Please sign and return these
forms the next day.
Our school book fair will take place the week of Dec. 3rd. Orders can be
placed online or cash purchases can be made at school.
Please remember the deadline for December Scholastic orders is Dec. 21st.
You may order online at https://orders.scholastic.com/LQ6WG or by bringing in
an order slip with the cash payment. Our class code is: LQ6WG . Each person
who orders online receives a free $5.00 book of their choice.
Check out this new website I discovered for extra practice on the skills we
are working on. Try it out and let me know if you like it:
http://studyjams.scholastic.com/studyjams/jams/math/index.htm .
November 14, 2012
Today I sent home the Chapter 5 Tests that the students took on Thursday of
last week for parent signatures. Students are to make corrections for each
problem they got wrong on a seperate sheet of paper showing ALL WORK!!! This
Chapter proved to be difficult for many of my students so I will be sending
home additional practice on these skills in the upcoming days. It is
imperetive that these skills be reviewed and mastered. Unfortunately, we can
not spend any more class time on it because we will get further behind on the
skills needed to be covered in the 2nd quarter of school.
Tomorrow is McTeacher Night. Please come by your Sunny Isles Beach McDonalds
between the hours of 2:30 p.m - 7:00 p.m. to support your school in this fun,
fundraiser event. Proceeds from this event will come right back to our
school! Mrs. Perdomo will be working the drive-thru from 3:30 p.m - 4:00
p.m.
Our Math class will participate in a subscription to Scholastic Math
Magazine. We will use these magazines to complete various activities and
strengthen many of the skills we have learned and will learn this year.
Future class discussions and homework assignments will come from this
magazine. To ensure that every child receives the bulk of these lessons, I
would like each child to have their own copy. Many of the items we use in
class are expenses incurred by the teacher. I am asking parents to help me
with the cost of this magazine. A payment of $5.00 will give your child a
magazine subscription for the remainder of the school year and will be
his/hers to keep. This amount includes the cost of the magazine, taxes, and
all shipping costs. Please send $ 5.00 with your son / daughter as soon as
possible. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and for supporting us in
your child's education.
Please remember the deadline for November Scholastic orders is Nov. 21st.
You may order online at https://orders.scholastic.com/LQ6WG or by bringing in
an order slip with the cash payment. Our class code is: LQ6WG .
November 8, 2012
Some of my students have expressed an interest in making their Scholastic
Book Order online. This is actually a great convenience because parents can
use their credit or debit cards as payments and also because each student who
orders online receives a free book valued at $5.00. Your classroom also
benefits by receiving free gifts for the class. If you would like to take
advantage of this opportunity, please go to
https://orders.scholastic.com/LQ6WG , register, and place your order by Nov.
21st. Our class code is: LQ6WG .
November 7, 2012
Our Interim Testing has ended for most of the school. The scores have been
posted to the electronic grade book. We will spend a few minutes each day
over the next few weeks reviewing the tests to see where our mistakes were.
We will have a test on Chapter 5 (Fractions and Mixed Numbers) tomorrow,
Thursday, November 8th. This is the chapter we worked on prior to Interim
Testing as well as during the week of changed schedules. Please make sure
you complete the Interactive Practice Test online. Remember, parents must
sign the printout in order for you to receive your extra credit. For
additional practice, please follow these directions:
1) Go to http://my.hrw.com
2) Log in as: seahawk2 and Password: 12345
3) Click on “Go to the Online Textbook”
4) Find the drop down menu for the chapter and choose the chapter wanted,
then click “Go”.
5) Click on the “Additional Practice” tab at the top left side of the page.
6) Click on the “+” next to the lesson you need help with.
7) Click on the link “Homework Help Online”
Here you will find practice activities, step by step directions for each
skill tested, tutorial videos, and power point presentations. Please browse
through regularly as a supplement to classroom lessons and to help with your
homework.
I will be opening the "Perdomo Shop" on Friday, November 9th. Please make
sure you have your points with you to shop. My store does not accept credit
or IOU's!
Report cards from the first quarter will be distributed on Friday, November
9th. I am asking that parents sign the bottom of the report card and send it
back with their child. They must submit it to me so that I can check them
off my list, and then it will be immediately returned.
I am happy to announce my participation in McTeacher Night on Thursday,
November 15th.
This great fundraiser is when you can come visit your favorite Math teacher
working at McDonald's without a calculator. McDonald's has generously agreed
to allow your wacky teachers to serve their customers and then donate a
portion of the proceeds from that evening back to our school. I will be
there from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Bring your cameras and buy yourself a treat. It
is not often you get to see your teachers working at McDonald's!!!
There will be no school on Monday, November 12th in observance of Veteran's
Day.
There will be no school on Thursday and Friday, November 22nd and 23rd in
observance of Thanksgiving Day.
We will be starting Chapter 4 on Tuesday, November 13th. Please plan
accordingly.
October 26, 2012
The 1st grading period is past us. We now begin the 2nd grading period with
a clean slate. Please make sure you keep up with all your assignments from
the very beginning. Some of the first things I will be collecting are the
Review Packets we've been working on at home and in class (Topic I, II, and
III). These will be collected after Interim Testing is over so that you may
have them to study from. Remember that each and every problem has to have
work shown or a sentence explaining the answer. No work, No credit!
Interim Testing will take place the week of October 29th. Please make sure
you are well rested and that you have eaten a balanced breakfast and that you
attend school everyday on time. These Interim Assessments simulate the FCAT
and are treated as such. I will be using these assessments as several test
grades as they cover everything I've taught since the beginning of this
school year. A great way to study for this assessment is to review the
packets I've provided for study. Another way to study is to complete the
Interactive Practice Tests and do some practice activities from the online
text for Chapters 2,3, and 5. Here are directions for accessing them:
1) Go to http://my.hrw.com
2) Log in as: seahawk2 and Password: 12345
3) Click on “Go to the Online Textbook”
4) Find the drop down menu for the chapter and choose the chapter wanted,
then click “Go”.
5) Click on the “Additional Practice” tab at the top left side of the page.
6) Click on the “+” next to the lesson you need help with.
7) Click on the link “Homework Help Online”
Here you will find practice activities, step by step directions for each
skill tested, tutorial videos, and power point presentations. Please browse
through regularly as a supplement to classroom lessons and to help with your
homework.
Next weeks schedule will be altered to accomodate our Interim Testing. I
will not be seeing all of my classes each day, although I will on Wednesday.
Class assignments and homework assignments will be given at the next class
and you will have all week to complete them. Please check the class website
if you are confused about your assignments.
I will be opening the "Perdomo Shop" towards the end of the first week in
November. Begin gathering your points to shop. I will also be distributing
points for all the "A's" and "100%'s" received in the first marking period
and for students who have completed all their homework since the beginning of
the year. Some of you are PERDOMO POINTS RICH! Once again, thank you to the
parents who have donated items and gift cards to help me in making this an
exciting reward for my students. They will be talking about it for a while!
Have a great weekend!
October 22, 2012
We are beginning to wrap up the first quarter of the 2012-2013 school year.
The official last day of this grading period is Thursday, October 25th.
Please make sure you have turned in all assignments that are pending or that
you may have missed because of an absence. Also, make sure that you do not
miss any assignments this week because there will not be a chance to make it
up before the quarter ends on Thursday. Friday, October 26th is a Teacher
Planning Day. I will be busy tabulating grades!
Today I sent home Unsatisfactory Progress Reports for those students who are
in danger of receiving a failing grade in Math for the first quarter. If you
received one, make sure it is signed by your parent and returned to me
tomorrow. I am available for student conferences every morning at 7:45 a.m.,
so if you are questioning your grades, you should be in my classroom in the
morning. There is no reason for anyone to be failing my class. I am always
available for you and if you put in the effort and show concern for your
success, then I will help you meet your goal!
There will be a cyber safety meeting held on October 23rd at 6 p.m. in the
cafeteria by Officer Gonzalez. She will share information that is very eye
opening. She will discuss internet safety issues, cyber-bullying, and
internet lingo you may be unfamiliar with so that you can be better informed
of the dangers there are with social media. I highly recommend every parent
attend this extremely important seminar. This is only for parents. Students
will not be allowed to participate as some of the information is not age
appropriate.
Interim Testing will take place the week of October 29th. Please make sure
you are well rested and that you have eaten a balanced breakfast. These
Interim Assessments simulate the FCAT and are treated as such. I will be
using these assessments as a Test Grade as they cover everything I've taught
in the first quarter, however the grade will appear in the 2nd quarter grade
sheet because of the date of administration.
The final day to place Scholastic Book Club orders will be Thursday, October
25th. Please fill out the order form and bring in the exact cash. I will
place the orders on Friday and your items should arrive within 2 weeks after
that.
October 12, 2012
There will be a test for all of Chapter 3 on Monday, October 15th. This test
will be worth 3 grades. Please make sure you complete all your homework this
weekend as it is all review to prepare you for your test. Also, I urge you
to complete the Interactive Practice Test online. If you score higher than
80%, print it out or write it out, and have it signed by a parent, then you
will receive 10 extra credit points. You can also watch the powerpoint
lessons and videos for the lessons that prove to be the most difficult.
Remember that the more effort you put into studying, the more successful you
will be.
We are getting very close to the end of the 1st quarter. If your grade drops
now it will be extremely hard to raise it back up before reports cards are
submitted. STUDY! STUDY! STUDY!
The next chapter we will be working in is Chapter 5 (Fractions). We will
also continue reviewing for our upcoming Interim Assessments which will cover
all the skills learned in the first quarter of school.
Friday, October 26th, is a teacher planning day. There will be no school for
students. This is the end of the first marking period and I will be busy
calculating your grades!
October 5, 2012
We have been working on review skills such as division and rounding. I am
very concerned that many of my students are a bit rusty on their
multiplication tables. It is imperative that my students know all their
multiplication facts up to 12. Without this critical skill, it will be
impossible to progress in 6th grade. Please practice your multiplication
skills daily. I can not spend instructional time on this skill as it is not
part of the 6th grade curriculum. There is to much to cover. A great website
to help you is honorpoint.com. You can take the quizzes to test your speed.
If you can finish one set in less than 30 seconds, then you can print out the
report and bring it to me for Perdomo Points. (I don't give points for the 0,
1, 2, 5,10, and 11 tables because they are to easy).
There will be a quiz on Lessons 3-6 on Monday, October 8th. Please prepare by
watching the Example videos and completing the Interactive Practice Quizzes
for that lesson. If you need help or clarification on anything, please come
see me Monday morning at 7:45 a.m. for last minute reviews.
We will also be having a Chapter 3 Test worth 3 grades during the week of
October 15th. The exact date is still yet to be determined as I want to make
sure my students are ready!
Our first Interim Assessment will take place the week of October 29th. As
some of you may know, this is a real important test. This assessment will
cover all of the material we have learned since the beginning of the year. I
will be providing my students with study guides and we will review in class,
but I will need you guys to go over your notes and Chapters 2, 3, and 5.
This Assessment will be worth 3 grades!
The grading period ends on October 26th. You still have time to raise your
grades. If your are not happy with your grade in Math class, only you can
fix that. See me in the mornings for specifics about your grades. An
opportunity for extra credit is forthcoming. Please take advantage of this
opportunity. More information will be sent soon!
Once again, thank you to all the families who have purchased items and
giftcards for our classroom. The contributions are greatly appreciated.
The Perdomo Shop will be opened soon (around the first week of November).
Keep your points in a safe place so you can shop all the goodies you have
earned.
September 28, 2012
There will be a quiz on Lessons 3-1 through 3-3 on Monday, October 1st worth
2 grades. Please prepare by watching the Example videos and completing the
Interactive Practice Quizzes for those lessons. If you need help or
clarification on anything, please come see me Monday morning at 7:45 a.m. for
last minute reviews.
Tonight is NSE/SIB night at Chuck E. Cheese from 2:00 p.m until closing. If
you attend and mention your school's name, they will donate part of the
proceeds to our school.
Thank you to all the students and families who have sent in items for our
class. Your donations are greatly appreciated.
September 21, 2012
We are at the half-way mark of the first grading period. Interim Progress
Reports went home today with each student. Please have them signed by a
parent and return them on Monday to your homeroom teacher.
There will be a quiz on Lessons 3-1 and 3-2 on Monday, September 24th worth 2
grades. Please prepare by watching the Example videos and completing the
Interactive Practice Quizzes for those lessons. If you need help or
clarification on anything, please come see me Monday morning at 7:45 a.m. for
last minute reviews.
September 11, 2012
Thank you to all the parents who attended our Open House. It was truly
inspiring to see how many parents are collaborating in their child's
education. It is this support that makes our kids successful in school.
Also, thank you to everyone who contributed items to our class from my wish
list. I am keeping track of all the contributions so that I may award
Perdomo Points. The Perdomo shop will open in Nov. for students to use their
points for goodies.
Please be advised that the awards ceremony for students who received "5" on
their FCAT last year, has been rescheduled for Friday, September 14th at 7:30
a.m.
There will be a quiz on Friday on Lessons 2-1 through 2-4 worth 2 grades.
Please prepare by going over your notes, reviewing homework that has been
corrected, and completing the Interactive Practice Quizzes for each of these
lessons. They do not need to be printed out or signed as this is a quiz on
only part of the chapter and not a test on the complete chapter.
September 5, 2012
The time has come to meet your child's teachers and visit our beautiful
classroom. Open House for grades 4-8 will be held on Thursday, September 6th
from 7:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Please come show your support and commitment for
your child's education. Please report to your child's homeroom class where
the activities will begin. You will receive your child's schedule, listen to
a short announcement from the school's principal, hear important information
from your child's homeroom teacher, and be directed to the next class in 10
minute intervals. Each math student that has a parent attend our class' Open
House will have an opportunity to receive a "NO HOMEWORK" coupon. The parent
simply has to correctly answer this question: "How can my child earn extra
credit?"
Students, tell your parents the answer. Parents, ask your children how!
(Please note: This offer is only valid in Mrs. Perdomo's Math class)
I look forward to meeting all of you!
August 30, 2012
We will be having out first test tomorrow on Chapter 1. Please make sure you
go to your online text, complete the Interactive Practice Test for Chapter 1,
and print it out to receive your extra credit. You can also review and study
using the Instructional videos. This test will be worth 2 grades.
Also, please be reminded that your "Math All Around" project is due on
Tuesday, September 4th. I will not accept late work. You have had 2 weeks
to work on this. This project will be worth 2 grades.
August 29, 2012
This is the first of many email new sflashes you will be receiving from me.
I will alert you when there will be a quiz (unless it's a Pop Quiz) or test
in Math class or important activities happening in and around your school.
We are off to an exciting year. Many things have been happening but mostly I
have been working overtime to try and get to know each of my students and
making sure that they get to know me so that the rest of the school year will
run smoothly. We are also currently working on Chapter 1 in our Math Book
which is a review of skills learned in previous grades.
Please make sure you have visited our online text at http://my.hrw.com and
bookmarked it or placed it in your favorites. You will be using this
resource a lot! Become familiar with it and how to navigate through it. The
user name to access it is: seahawk2 and the password is: 12345.
Please read through the syllabus I gave you upon entering my class. This
syllabus should remain in your binder at the front of your math section at
all times so that you may refer to it as needed.
Some things you should know:
1) My expectations are high, but I will always assist you in reaching them.
2) My excuse limit is "0"! If you forgot something or did something wrong,
take the consequence and then make up for it.
3) I am available for morning help at 7:45 a.m. most mornings.
4) I am human! Do not be afraid to approach me.
5) NO WORK...NO CREDIT!!! That means every single time!
I look forward to a fantastic year with my new students. Please feel free to
contact me should you have any questions or concerns.

Welcome Back!!!
Welcome to your new 6th grade homeroom classroom. You will be reporting to
this classroom every morning for the next 180 days. Don’t get scared…you are
very lucky to be in this homeroom class.
I am very serious about attendance. Every morning when you arrive at school,
you should go to the cafeteria for yourFREE breakfast (7:30 a.m. - 8:15 a.m.)
After you have finished, you should proceed to the picnic tables outside of
the cafeteria where you will remain until one of the 6thgrade teachers picks
you up. You will then report directly to homeroom class. This is not the time
to use the restroom or meet with your friends. The tardy bell rings at 8:35
a.m. and if you are not in your seat by that time, you will be marked tardy.
Yes, even if it is only 30 seconds later!!! Please be on time to homeroom as
being tardy more than 3 times will keep you from participating in fun
activities such as field-trips, dances, and parties.
I’d like to tell you a little about myself. My name is Mrs. Elizabeth J.
Perdomo. I was born in Philadelphia, PA to Argentinian parents and have lived
in the South Florida, tri-county area almost my entire life. I have two
daughters who have also attended our school. I have been teaching for over 18
years and would not even think of ever changing my profession. I am
passionate about teaching and learning and will make it my personal goal to
make this year one of the most successful your child has had thus far.
In an effort to reduce costs and go “GREEN”, most of the required forms that
need to be filled out and returned to your child’s homeroom teacher will not
be sent to you. Instead, we are asking that these “REQUIRED FORMS” be printed
at home, filled out, and then returned to the homeroom teacher. You will find
these forms as well as other pertinent information on our school website.
Please follow these directions in order to access the forms so that they may
be returned immediately:
*Go to our school website athttp://sib.dadeschools.net
* Click on the tab that reads “2012 Opening of School” found along the top of
the page.
* Read through each of the sections.
Print out the first four forms (Parent Welcome and Sign.doc, COSC Parent
Letter Eng.doc, Video Release-media.doc, and Internet AUP Policy.doc ),fill
them out COMPLETELY, and return to school within the first three days of
classes. I know this can be an overwhelming amount of information, but rest
assured, it is necessary for you to review and understand in order for your
child to achieve maximum success.
You may also find other important information and a direct link to email me
on ourclass websiteat:

Thank you in advance for your patience and commitment in making this an
outstanding year. I look forward to meeting all of you real soon.
