Welcome to Mrs. Raude’s

Brain Busters!

Brain Busters is an exciting new class project open to anyone that wants to add another wrinkle to their brain! Participating is a snap! Just work out the weekly problem and turn in your solution on a piece of paper with your name, date, and problem number to Mrs. Raude before Friday afternoon. *Look for the Brain Buster envelope near our classroom library.

**Those students with the correct solution will receive their name on the Brain Busters Super Solver Page!

Brain Buster #4: Week of September 17th

 

On the planet Teegradd, Lauren, Nicholas, and their native friend Aly are running through a cave to reach the treasure. Suddenly, they come to three iron doors. "Quick!" screeches Aly, "You can get through the door with the greatest number on it!"

Door 1 says:
three times the sum of three hundreds, six ones, and five tens
Door 2 says:
zero times the sum of 1 ten thousand and 3 thousands
Door 3 says:
eight ones, one thousand, five tens, and six hundreds

Which door will open to the treasure?

Brain Buster #3: Week of September 4th

John's mother got a $10.00 roll of quarters from the bank for lunch money for John. He spends 75 cents every day on lunch. How many days will the roll of quarters last? Will there be any quarters left over?

Answer: 13 days and 25 cents left over

Brain Buster #2: Week of August 27th

Aidan, Julia, William, and Jessica are working on their explorer projects. They each got books from the library. The library allows each student to borrow no more than five books at a time when doing research. Aidan borrowed three books, William took the one book he was looking for, and Julia borrowed the most books. All together they borrowed 13 books for their research. How many books did each student take out?

Answer: Aidan-3, William-1, Jessica- 4, and Julia- 5

 

Brain Buster #1: Week of August 20th

 Six lords came to live in the city of Gimiro. The first lord built himself a tower. The second lord built a tower that was 6 feet higher than the first lord’s tower. The third lord built a tower that was 6 feet higher than the second lord’s tower. Each lord built a tower that was 6 feet higher than the tower built by the lord before him. The sixth’s lord’s tower was 40 feet high. If the six towers were piled on top of each other, how high would they reach?

Answer: 150
