Welcome to 4th grade gifted! There are many things I would like you to know about me. First, I am a Florida International University graduate obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. I am also a National Board Certified Teacher ...a very prestigious accomplishment for educators. I am an experienced teacher of the Gifted and dedicated to my craft. I have been teaching for 16 years now, 9 of which have been here at Sunset Lakes Elementary (a year after the school opened) and have taught third, fourth and fifth grades. Throughout these years I have taught regular, gifted, ESOL, TEAM (high achievers), Reading and Language Arts Departmentalization, and ESE inclusion classes. I am also licensed in Reading Education, certifying me to teach Reading 1st-12th grade. I am married to Osvaldo my husband for 22 years now and have two beautiful children, Amanda 19 and Brandon 16, they are my happiness :-). I love all types of pets. I have two cats, their names are Max and Simba. I love coffee (Starbucks & Dunkin Donuts), 80's pop culture, and anything CHOCOLATE! I love helping my students become the very best learners that they can be. This year will be a very interesting and challenging school year for all students. Our classroom will be one where the student excels academically as the year progresses. I expect all class and homework assignments turned in on a regular basis and outstanding class behavior. I WILL CHALLENGE YOUR CHILD TO REACH OPTIMAL LEVELS :) I plan to make learning fun and exciting. My goal is to motivate my students so that together they can be the best fourth graders in the whole school! We are off to a GREAT START!!!! LET THE LEARNING BEGIN....
My mission for this class is to develop my student's reading, writing, and math skills to his/her fullest potential while creating a positive safe learning environment where the student will flourish not only academically but socially as well. In our class all learning styles will be addressed and students will participate in project based learning activities. Technology will be infused in the curriculum as much as possible through research based learning. Students will learn to work in cooperative groups in order to foster teamwork. Higher order thinking skills will be inccorporated in all subjects, concepts, and skills taught. It is extremely important to have open lines of communication with parents so that we can work together as a team in the intellectual growth and development of our children, and to promote the fundamentals of responsibility and accountability students should have in order to succeed. Finally, I plan to individualize learning by providing various assignments and activities based on each student's particular academic needs and interests.
