There is no need to STRUGGLE with MATH!!! All you have to do is just follow these steps and you will improve your math skills. The following are some effective strategies that might come in handy to help solve math problems. Number Sense Strategies These are some key words to look for when: � Adding: sum, plus, total, in all, all together. � Subtracting: less than, difference, fewer, minus, remainder, how many more. � Multiplying: product, times, twice, multiplied by, total. � Dividing: quotient, goes into, each, split equally. Problem Solving Strategies *Draw a diagram or picture. * Make a model or Act it out. * Make an organized list. * Find a pattern. * Make a table or graph. * Predict and test (Guess & Check). * Solve a simpler problem (Make it simpler). * Write an equation. * Use logical reasoning (Common sense). Unlocking Word Problems � Read the problem twice from beginning to end. � Decide what question the problem asks. � Choose the correct math operation to solve the problem. � Pick out the information you need for the number problem. � Solve the number problem and check your answer. � Read the problem again to see if your answer makes sense. Remember, PRATICE MAKES PERFECT!!:)
