Dear Parent/Guardian,
In 1996, a set of standards for all public school students in Florida was
adopted. Called the Sunshine State Standards, they were developed in
consultation with teachers, administrators, parents, business leaders and
other citizens. Essentially, they outline what students should know and be
able to do in a variety of subject areas at four grade levels--pre-
kindergarten through 2nd grade, 3rd through 5th grade, 6th through 8th
grade, and 9th through 12th grade.
