Creative Long Term Assignments

                      South American Country-Group Presentation

Your group will be given a country to research and you will present
your presentation to both classes (except Periods 2 & 5). It will count as a
Long Term Assignment grade and will include outside of the class
research/homework and 2 days of in class work preparing your presentation.
The following information MUST be included in your presentation:

1. Country’s MAP and FLAG
2. A brief HISTORY of your country and MAJOR HISTORICAL LEADERS
3. Its SIZE, RELATIVE LOCATION as compared to other South American countries
4. NATURAL REGIONS, RIVERS and LAKES, HIGHEST ELEVATION, etc.
5. CLIMATE and NATURAL RESOURCES
6. PLANTS and ANIMALS found in your country
7. POPULATION and DESCRIPTION of the people
8. MAJOR/PRINCIPAL CITIES
9. MAJOR LANGUAGE and RELIGION
10. CULTURE such as EDUCATION, LITERATURE, ART, MUSIC and DANCE, SPORTS, etc.
11. AGRICULTURE, FORESTRY and FISHING, MINING, MANUFACTURING, etc.
12. Its CURRENCY and ECONOMY
13. Its favorite TOURIST SPOTS/LOCATIONS
14. GOVERNMENT-TYPE and SET-UP
15. DEFENSE and MILITARY

You may want to Google ‘free encyclopedias online” as you will find
Encarta, Britanica, and others. NO WIKIPEDIA IS TO BE USED! Your group must
use and correctly cite at least 5 different sources and at least 3 different
types of sources. For example, an encyclopedia, a magazine such as National
Geographic, a site that shows maps or flags, etc.

As a group you will divide and conquer! This means you will fill out the
group copy presented, put your group’s names and period on it, and then list
beside the 15 items which person is responsible for research of that item.
ALL information must be brought to class no later than TUESDAY, December 1st,
as you will use Tuesday and Wednesday in class to prepare your presentation.
Presentations are Thursday and Friday. You must create a POWERPOINT (at least
10 slides) to show in class. REMEMBER-It is best to briefly show information
in visuals with clear wording and pictures. Too crowded is hard to see and
too much writing distracts. Your group presentation should be from 6-9
minutes long—no shorter, no longer. A rubric will be presented to show you
how this will be graded. HAVE FUN LEARNING!
