Frequently Asked Questions:
The school hours are from 8:30am-3:15pm. I open my door at 8:20am for students to have time to get ready for the day. I expect students to be ready to learn starting promptly at 8:30pm. Students that come into the room after the 8:30am bell are marked tardy.Back to Top
Do you have snack time in the classroom?
Yes, I give students the opportunity to have a small snack during the day. Since students eat the snack while teaching continues, please try to make the snack easy to open and easy to eat. I ask families every now and then to help by volunteering to bring in a box of crackers or pretzels sometime during the school year. This is for the students that forget to bring a snack. I let families know through my weekly newsletters when our snack supplies run low. Students are permitted to bring a small water bottle to school every day. They may keep the bottle at their desk, if they are not disturbing the class. Students need water to help their brains work!Back to Top
Will my child be doing lots of projects at home this year?
My job is to help your child understand how to complete a quality project. Students will be doing almost all of their projects in the classroom. I walk students through the requirements step by step. This way your child knows how to complete a project all on their own. Please be prepared to help your child with their Science Fair project in the fall. This is a required project for all AWC students. Don't worry, I hold parent meetings and workshops to help you through the process.Back to Top
What is the best way to contact you?
Writing notes and emailing is the best way for you to communicate questions or concerns. Also, you may use your child's agenda book to write me notes or ask me questions.Back to Top
Can I drop by before school to talk to you?
I use the time before school to prepare for the day. Your questions or concerns are so important to me that I would like to schedule a time when we can sit down without any distractions. If you have something quick to tell me in order to help your child have a wonderful day, please feel free to catch me at the door.Back to Top
When can I schedule a conference with you?
I will be scheduling conferences with all my families within the first 2 months of school. After all the baseline testing and observations have been completed, I will begin to set up meeting times with my families. Please give me at least a month to get to know your child's strengths and weaknesses. If I notice something that I am concerned about, I will contact you immediately and schedule a conference right away.Back to Top
Is it okay to have lunch with my child?
I encourage families to have lunch with their child. Please meet us at the doors of the cafeteria. The cafeteria has a special spot just for visiting families. Just a reminder that you may only invite your own child to sit with you.Back to Top
Should I help my child with their homework?
I encourage parents to allow their child to complete homework on their own. I only send home work that practices skills that have been worked on in class. If your child has any questions, please don't hesitate to explain the directions or concept to them. Sometimes it just takes a little encouragement. If your child is still challenged by the homework, have them write me a note detailing exactly what they didn't understand. I then will help them the following day in class.Back to Top
Great question! My full last name is Bartholomew-Cook. Many years ago Mrs. Russell (our wonderful principal) nicknamed me Mrs. B-C. I have gone by that name ever since. It has caught on so now my husband and children all go by the name B-C.Back to Top
