Happy New Year!!
This week students will be working on Lesson 17 in Vocabulary and Spelling.
We will focus on words that have spelling changes when a suffix is added. The
dictation sentences will be from the passage, The Ant and the Grasshopper. I
have included the passage on the Announcements and Homework page on my
website.
In Math, students will be working in Geometry. This week is all about hands-
on practice. Students will be making a paper pyramid, using straws to make
angles and vertices, and triangles to make pictures. Students will be working
on the Geometry terms: faces, vertices, edges, base, and angle. Students will
be given the end of Geometry test early next week. I will let you know the
exact date once I see how fast they are comprehending the concepts. A study
guide will go home later this week.
On Monday, students will be making their New Years Resolutions. We will
post them in the room, so they can review them before class every day. Ask
your child what they selected as the area they want to improve on this year.
In Social Studies, students will again work on map skills and begin
learning about the state of Florida. Students, answer these question for four
eagle coupons:
1.Who is the governor of the state of Florida?
2.Where is the state government located?
Bring in the answers on a piece of paper with your name and receive your
eagle coupons.
This week is suppose to be colder than normal (Brrrr!) Please, remember to
dress warmly.
I hope everyone had a fabulous Winter Break. I was so happy to see all my
2nd graders again! They were smiling, happy and ready to learn! (Yeah!)
I know we will have a fabulous week!
Hugs!

Words cannot express my gratitude for all the wonderful gifts, cards, food,
and treats that I received this week. It has been an incredible couple of
days. I was completely overwhelmed with the class gift card that I received
on Friday. It took me by surprise! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for
such a thoughtful gift. I look forward to going shopping over Winter Break.
My family has been really enjoying the incredible food and treats that I
have been sharing with them. I think we all are gaining a few pounds! It is
worth it though!
I love all my cards and they are proudly being displayed at my home. Again,
many thanks for all the wonderful gifts, cards, foods, and treats!
Amanda, from Sarasota Memorial Hospital, visited our classroom on Wednesday
to pick up the gifts for the children in hospital. She was amazed by both the
amount of gifts and the wide variety of items. There were so many items that
she had a hard time carrying all the items to the car! Thank you for being so
generous.
I hope all of you have a wonderful and safe Winter Break. Enjoy, read,
relax, and have fun!
Hugs! See you January 4th!

We have a great week planned! Students will be learning about different
countries throughout the week. Students will go to a different classroom
every
day to learn about Germany, Israel, Mexico, England, and Italy. Students
will
learn about the country, people, and flags. Students will make a craft
associated with the country and even do a little food tasting. It will be a
wonderful experience for all my students.
This week we will be making gingerbread houses on Tuesday and Wednesday. I
can't wait to see who are our budding architects, builders, and interior
decorators will be! Mrs. Snyder sent home notes last week for items needed
for
the houses. Please contact her with any questions.
Monday also starts the beginning of Secret Giving. Students have prepared
bags that are ready to receive goodies, notes of kindness, treats, candy,
and
surprises. If you would like to send items to put into their bags, please
send
them in sometime this week. Students will secretly put the items in the
bags
during the week. Students will open their bags Friday afternoon. We will
have
juice and a treat at the same time on Friday (1:30-2:15).
Wednesday (around 1:00)is the day that the Sarasota Memorial Hospital
representative will come by and collect the items for the hospital. A huge
thank you goes to the families that have already sent in items. There is
still
room left in our bin for more goodies. If you send items in, please mark
them
with your name.
This week in Math we are still working on Geometry. Please see the notes
from
December 6 about the skills we will cover. Some will be a review, others
will
be introduced for the first time this week.
I will write a note later in the week to fill you in on what we will be
doing
after Winter Break.
I hope everyone has a great week!
