We have a busy week ahead of us this week. We will be going swimming every
day this week at Girls, Inc. It is a great program and I am so grateful for
the chance to take my students swimming at no charge to us. Due to the change
of our work schedule, my volunteers can take the week off! We will be back on
schedule next week.
This week in math, students will continue to work on math problem solving
skills. Students have been working on solving double digit subtraction
problems using the "counting up" method. Students are getting so good at doing
this all in their head!
In Spelling and Vocabulary, students will be working on geography words.
Students will be learning about the continents and their locations. Students
will have to know how to spell continent names, so please plan for extra study
time this week. See the list under the Announcements and Homework site.
Report cards will come home on Monday. Students that earned Principals List
will receive a invitation in their envelope for a special congratulations from
Mrs. Russell and Mrs. Woodford. I am especially proud of all my hard working
students. Keep up the good work, making Principals List will be harder for the
2nd quarter. So work and study hard and you will be able to do it again!
I hope everyone has a fabulous week!

A few more updates.....
1. Pictures went home today. Picture retakes will be Nov. 11. If you do not
like the pictures that were sent home, please bring them back for retakes on
the 11th.
2. 2nd grade students in Sarasota County participate in the Water Safety
program. A permission form was sent home today for our trip to Girls, Inc.
next week. All the information about the trip are included in the packet.
Please read and return the forms by Friday.
3. Report cards will not be going home on Wednesday as first announced. Due
to computer glitches, report cards will be delayed
4. In Science, students are continuing to learn about bones and the skeletal
system. We have also been experimenting and talking about vibrations and
sounds. Ask your child what they have learned so far!
Many thanks!!

I hope everyone had a fun and relaxing 3 day weekend. I spent Friday
submitting 1st quarter grades and cleaning our classroom. I am all set for a
great week!
A huge thank you goes to Susan Snyder and her band of volunteers. The Fall
Festival celebration was a big success! Students enjoyed over 10 activities
and games. The orange food and drink were scrumptious! Huge thanks goes to the
moms who stayed out in the heat so students could play some wild and messy
games. Many thanks also goes to the moms who jumped right in and helped our
students have such a great time. You are the best!!
This week will be Mystery Week for our class. I have a big Mystery Day
planned for Wednesday morning. Students will use observation skills and
experimenting skills to solve a mystery. Students are also finishing up their
mystery book in Reading class. Mrs. Snyder will be contacting families to see
if they can volunteer to help with the 10 Science experiments during our
Mystery event on Wednesday morning.
In Math, students will be working with problem solving and word problems.
As we pick up the pace for the quarter, students will be finishing up this
unit of study by next week. A study guide will go home later this week.
Please read the Homework section for the Spelling and Vocabulary review
words. The focus of this week is to use these words in past and present tense.
You will notice that students will be working with both tenses this week. The
definitions test for these words will be on Thursday with the spelling test
and dictation paragraphs on Friday.
The school pictures arrived on Friday. I will pass these out on Monday. I
have not heard about a retake day yet.
Tatum Ridge Mileage Club starts soon. The sign-up paper will be coming home
on Monday.
Keep working on your Science Fair project. The next deadline is fast
approaching.
I hope everyone has a fabulous week!
