How will I know what homework is assigned?
During the scool year, each child is required to keep an agenda.
Each day your student is required to bring it to class.
I expect every child to read each night for a minimum of 25
minutes. Please sign his/her agenda noting the title, author and
pages read of the book.
I have just purchased a subscription to Raz-Kids.com. I believe
that each child will love reading a book on-line, recording
his/her voice reading it, and answering a few questions. I can
differentiate the assignment in this manner too. I am looking
forward to working with this resource.
We will NOT have homework on Wednesdays.
What if my child loses the spelling and/or vocabulary words?
I do post the spelling and vocabulary on-line every Saturday
morning. Every Monday your child will come home with these new
spelling words and robust vocabulary words. I give a pretest on
Monday, then each child will know the words he/she needs to work
to learn. The test will be on that week's Friday.
What about Math?
Each week we will pretest and test math skills. The day for this
changes according to our readiness. Generally I try for Friday.
Sometimes a particular chapter needs a bit more time for
mastery,so the assessment would then change to Monday.
Of course, once that happens the schedule becomes rather fluid.
Especially, when we have four-day weeks!
Your child will have the assessment date (target) written in
his/her agenda.
Is there an ability for my child to receive extra credit?
Yes, a monthly calendar will go home with some suggestions for
extra credit. Many parents and students have enjoyed these
activities and the number of choices given.
I hope you do too!
Conferences?
I do require each child to attend our conferences, so I generally
schedule them before or after school hours. After all, the three
of us (parents, student and teacher) work together to impart and
acquire new skills and knowledge.
It is good for your child to show off his/her work!
I will be contacting each family to schedule these by the first
of September.
By the way,I live in the neighborhood and I do not mind returning
to school after your work hours. So, if an evening time works
best for you, please do not hesitate to inform me!
What do the colors mean in the agenda?
This brand of agenda have never been used by anyone.I was unaware
the agenda
has a set of definitions for the colors on the daily bar.
However, in my classroom we have a different set of definitions:
Blue: "Blue skies", Beautiful behavior, Best Choices
Green: Great, "GO", On the right path
Yellow: "Caution", Rethink your choices
RED: "Stop"--Unacceptable behavior
