Reading: Target Skill - Setting

Genre Study - Understand characteristics of folktales

Use a graphic organizer as a comprehension strategy

Read every night for 15 minutes. Reading practice helps increase fluency and
comprehension. First grade goal is to be reading 60 words per minute by the
end of first grade.

Review the floss rule - When a one-syllable root word has a short vowel sound
followed by the sound /f/, /l/, or /s/ those sounds are usually spelled ff,
ll, or ss. We call words that follow this rule "floss words.

Our Thanksgiving Festival was a great success. Thanks to all who help and
donated items needed. Your help was greatly appreciated. The children enjoyed
the day!!

Nov. 23-27 - Thanksgiving Holidays - No School all week.

Dec. 4th - Field Trip to Martin Theater to see the play "The Best Christmas
Pageant Ever" and Under the Oaks Park for lunch. Please be sure to return the
field trip slip and the $5.75 to cover the cost by Wednesday, Dec. 2nd. No
child will be permitted to go without signed permission.

Dec. 7th - 10th - Santa Shop

Dec. 10th - Christmas Dinner in the lunchroom. Please join your child for
lunch on this day. We eat at 10:45 - 11:15.
