We aim for 3rd graders to read 120 words per minute of 3rd grade level text by April of this year. Each student should average at least 10 pages a day of their library book and finish and test on the book within 7 days. Ask detailed comprehension questions too to be sure they have adequate comprehension of the text. Ask cause/effect questions, main idea, predicting, compare and contrast, and analyze the situation type of questions. Also, ask regularly if they understand all the words on the page.
