Do I need to help my child with their homework?

Yes.  Listen to your child read orally, then ask who, what, where, when, and 
how questions to improve comprehension.  Check homework, make a positive 
comment, then ask your child to look at the incorrect items again. Math 
facts and 
spelling words need daily practice.  Daily journal writing prepares your 
child for 
the 4th grade Writing Assessment.

90-100 A
80-89  B

How do I help my child prepare for the Floirda Comprehensive Assessment Test?

Practice using www.fcatexplorer.com several times a week.
See question #10 for directions to FCAT Explorer.
Have your child read 30 minutes daily for reading fluency and speed. A 
reading speed goal should be 100 words per minute for second grade level 
material by the end of the school year.

Does my child need to pass the FCAT to receive promotion to 4th grade?

All third graders must score a level 2 or higher in reading to advance 
to 4th grade.

How do you handle behavior in your classroom?

The following consequences will be given sequentially for breaking school 
rules.
-1st: Verbal warning - remind student of correct behavior.
-2nd: Receive a tally card and time out.
-3rd: Copy a character essay and e-mail parent.
-4th: Attend Character Ed during Friday Club time.

How can my child earn 'Student of the Month'?

When students demonstrate leadership and outstanding character by following 
the rules, coming to school prepared, and turning in assignments on time, 
they may be chosen for 'Student of the Month' and receive prizes.

What is Accelerated Reader?

The students may read AR books on their level and take tests.  They will 
earn points based on the number of pages in the books and their scores on 
the tests.  No points are given for fialed tests.  Third graders need to 
read third grade or higher books.  No points will be given for second grade 
level books.

How do we keep up with the books read?

Students will be provided with a reading log to record each book title, the 
number of pages read, and have a parent sign that they checked the 
comprehension of each book by asking questions.  It is the students 
responsibility to record books and turn in a Reading Log to be checked 
weekly.
