Our classroom is full of celebration as we use the holiday season to learn about Geography! Over these last several days of school before the break for the holiday, we will be studying various holiday traditions. As we do so, we will be mapping cities and countries, learning map skills and vocabulary, plotting longitude and latitude of various places and studying basic information about the places where these holidays originated. This week began with reading about Holidays Around the World and learning about the map of the globe. Today, Wednesday, December 9th we had tamales for snack after hearing a beautiful and entertaining story called Too Many Tamales. Then we read about Mexico. We will be learning about the culture of Mexico tomorrow as well, along with the poinsettia plant and its place in the celebration. We move on to Hanukkah at the end of the week. We will read, play games, make crafts and learn about the place where each holiday is celebrated. Next week we will celebrate Kwanzaa and study Africa. I want to thank you again for all the funds from Pow Wow. These are so helpful in providing fun snacks, crafts, plants to observe, and more that makes our learning much more hands-on. I am also researching a field trip to go on with some of that money that is related to our curriculum. Math has been focused on graphing and data analysis. WE have studied bar graphs, line plots and stem and leaf graphs. We will move into double bar graphs, line graphs, and more this week. Writing has been focused on peaceful living. We will be writing about the spirit of giving as the holiday season approaches. Science has focused on plants with many fun opportunities to observe plants included.
