I am happy to be a part of the wonderful learning community here at
Venice Elementary and joining the fabulous gifted team at our school. This
is my 9th year teaching and living in Florida. I have 3
sons: Scott, 27, Andrew, 24 and Philip, 23. My husband Brian is a great
partner when it comes to building things for our classroom, doing odd jobs
and helping out with productions. We live in Nokomis with our two dogs,
Dixie, a Schnoodle and her friend, Schnauzer puppy Roxie, who has been a
delight. Don't ask me about them unless you want me to rave like an adoring
Mommy!
I attended college at the SUNY at Geneseo. I began my teaching career
in Dansville NY teaching kindergarten, then went on to create a k-1 multiage
class with a valued teammate at that school. Creating a program was
wonderful experience in learning how to build a community of learners from
theory to the classroom. I have had the opportunity to participate in many
learning opportunities since then, including strategies for reading success,
working with diversity, gifted education classes, mentoring for new teachers
and man more. I consider myself a lifelong learner and am always excited
to find new ways to reach my students. In 2007, I achieved National Board
Ceritifcation. In 2008, I attended a wonderful workshop in Orlando to learn
more about Kagan cooperative learning strategies. I am always excited to
bring new and improved strategies to my students!
My passion is providing motivation and purpose for students to take
ownership of their own learning, creating meaningful experiences for them to
reach out for discovery, and guiding the process of learning about things
that spark their interest. I look forward to a long and happy career here at
Venice, working in partnership with our
fantastic families.
First and foremost is to create an environment where children feel
empowered to learn and discover. We will develop a unique and positive
learning community. We will strive to stretch our minds, be open to new
ideas, expect great things from ourselves and others, and be partners
in successful learning endeavors.
