Announcements for English 1/Intensive Reading/Applied Comm.

Book Projects are due on Monday, November 30th. Instructions and grading
rubric are availabe in the handouts section.

Last week we were working in small groups to develop skills with finding
the main idea, determining correct inferences, examining author's
perspective and comparing and contrasting. Following an individual assess-
ment I will begin teaching a new way to read in small groups called
Reciprocal Teaching. Using this method students will spend time reading
a whole book together, learning how to visualize and connect with the
literature, summarize, ask questions and clarify troubling information.
This practice will help students to become active readers, a process that
we have been encouraging since the beginning of the school year.

I will be grading the Most Dangerous Game writing responses this weekend.
There will also be grades place for the October Reading Assessment taken
last week.

Students are due to have read 600 pages in class on their own by the end of
the quarter. Many students are well on their way but most are behind.
